A recent post got me to thinking about some of the replies, and a healthy dose of reality. What would you do if you, and you family, were in the Mall of America, or any other mall, and a group of terrorists opened fire on the people there?
There's the difference between you Army doggies and Marines....we Marines don't consider ourselves unarmed and defenseless just because we don't have a firearm handy. Adapt, improvise, overcome. ;-)
Come on guys, think. What type of guns would the terrorist likely be carrying? Do you really know how many of them there are? Where they are? We're off to one good answer, protect my family. How do we do that?
I think your only choice would be to try and hide some place and take one out so you could get their gun. I always carry my buck knife so that is about all I could use.
To be honest I avoid malls like the plague. They are all gun free zones and I only like shopping at my LGS or Cabela's. I live close to the 2nd largest mall in the world. Woodfield Mall. I have been there twice in the last 30 years.
What's the first thing you would do? The 2nd? The 3rd? Lay it out for us. How about #1 being call 911, you are probably going to need help, and the sooner it gets there the better!
Each situation would be different but my first move would be to move my family to any type of safe zone I could find, inside or out. Second would be call 911. Third would be to remain as tactical as possible using cover available and taking out targets as they presented themselves while waiting for help to arrive. I left out helping others when possible.
Don't know who said this but.......the best way to win in a gunfight is not to get into one in the first place. Since we don't know who these terrorist would be, I think I will just stay at home.
OK, I am in the mall with my family against my own advice to stay home and out of trouble.
First of all, like many here, unless they have metal detectors at every entrance, I will be armed with more than my Kel Tec .380. I am one of those guys that carry two guns and since my wife is with me, she is armed too. I would call 911 and not assume someone else has done so.
I would try to figure out where shots or explosions are coming from and be looking in an another direction because I know these guys usually work in teams. They usually have AK's. I would not want to run into a trap.
I would get me and my family (my wife) behind cover and watch for a short while until I could figure out a way to get out of the mall. If we could not get out I would position ourselves so no one could come up from behind, hopefully a place with one way in and out. Staying out of sight is best IMO.
If we could get others out of danger, we would try.
BUT, like I said, in the real, dangerous, uncertain world of today, I will just stay home.
FIRST- Get my family safe......
Second- Go hunting for fools.
Once I know my family is safe I will (Like a GOOD Marine) go towards the shots to engage and drop them.
I am ALWAYS armed and when I go to a mall I have always carried with 5 extra mags (6 counting the one in my gun). FULL to the top disregarding the NY comie. laws ( for this reason).
That gives me 49 shots and if I need more I will just use one of the fools gun that I drop.
I will be yelling that I am a good guy just incase there is someone else like me taking on the fools.

1.Get my family to safety in a back room of 1 of the businesses, hopefully 1 with a back door-tell them to barricade door shut-DO NOT open unless they hear our dogs name called out.
2.Get myself in a position to protect that door.
3.Wait and hope none of the miscreants come my way-if they do kill them.
4.Think sorrowful(for 1 minute)thoughts of all the lib zombies that are out there dying because they are so f....g stupid they depend on someone else to protect them.
Let's make it a little more intresting, this attack has been in the works for months or even years and they have C-4 at every exit out of the building so no local swat or pd can spoil their fun. My 1st mission is to get my family out of harms way and I'm thinking of trying to get them on the nearest elevator and disableing it half way down. If my 1st mission gets completed and for some reason that day I drank the kool-Aid and left my cc weapon at home then I start the hunt. Looking for ether a terrorist that isn't paying close attention to slit his neck or find a sports place in the mall for a bow. Ether will do, if I slit the terrorist's neck I will use his weapon and if I get a bow I would hang in the corners and dark places in the mall and clip them one by one till they are done away with. After the threat is gone I would find a way to get to my family then wait for swat to clear a way out of the building.
Does any one here really think they can win a shoot out against a group of armed terrorists with a plan?
Will you win 1 against 10!
How about 8!
OK, how about 1 against 6?
Maybe 4?
The truth is if you go up against another person that is just as determined to live, and kill, as you are, and he is armed better than you are, he will probably win!

I am not disagreeing with what you said
BUT
I feel my training and my will to live is enough to do what I have to do at lest to hold them up long enough for backup to arrive.
I am not saying I am "John Wane"
But I feel and believe that I can handle this by using my head and taking the shots and making them count.
Cover and fire, move cover and fire so on...
I would not just go running up to them shooting I would do what and how I was trained to do.
If I can hold them up for just a few minutes that could be enough time for back up to take over.
And if I can save 1 life before they get me that would be 1 person who they did not get.
And remember they will not be standing side by side they will separate when the shooting starts so even if they is 6 or 8 they will split up and that will give me the opportunity to go one on one and if they do not split up then it makes it easer to do something.
I am not saying I will not die but if I do it will be fighting for my people and I WILL die proud and with a red hot barrel.

As far as I know, all mall shops by law have at least 2 exits, usually the mall door and a loading door to the back of the mall, or a dimly lit corridor that runs to a loading area. I would get my family to head toward the back of the nearest shop, tell them to get the heck out of there as fast as possible, and call 911 on the way out.
Oh, and tell the nice 911 operator that I and a few dozen Patriots will be in the mall, shooting the terrorists. Then, I would as it was so eloquently put previously, "Go Huntin". If the mall had a "no guns" policy, I would be soooo surprised. Even astonished, as the bad guys ignored it too. I would not shoot a terrorist if there was not a clear shot, no chance of a miss hitting an innocent. But I believe that God Himself would help steady my aim.
Remember if they are concentrating on me they are not shooting others in till I am dead. That could be enough to slow them down and for help to arrive.
I thought I would add this.
My family would not expect any less from me.
Mike
I grew up with the Good Guy sacrificing himself for others, and if God decides to take me to Judgment, I can think of no finer epitaph than "He died trying to save innocents". Believe me, I want to live. But I know I am here for a reason, and protecting others seems like a good one.
I will add one more thing.
I do not and have not talked about this.(as some of you know)
I was in a fire fight that left me with out any feeling and limited movement in my right arm.( and the scares to prove it)
It was blown in half and I was shot twice but keep fighting and shooting till my backup arrived(I was passed out by then) my squad lost 5 men that day 5 good men, 5 good marines,5 good friends.
I will do what I have to do.
I have learned that about myself.
Mike
I am reminded of what happened EVERY day when I am working.
But talking about it is hard and still brings tears to my eyes and pain in my sole.
Well now I need to walk away.
