Can one of you guys tell me if I can buy Lee 9x18 mak dies for reloading?
I am thinking of buying me a Polish 9x18 Makarov to carry for a CC side arm. Any help would be appreciated.
Which Polish Makarov do you mean, Deacon_Man? The P-64 or the P-83? I have no experience with the P-64, but the P-84 is a good gun, although it might be a bit large for concealed carry. I don't CC myself, though, so I don't really know.
Sorry to differ from most of you guys - but I really like the Makarov for CC. I only have one East German Makarov (my son sold another EG - unauthorized!!!!!) and my wife carries it everywhere as her CC. I carry a PPK, but would MUCH rather carry a 9X18 Mak.
Just about the same size, feel and weight as my stainless PPK. The grip might be a tad more robust than my Walther, but I like that. I like the mag release better on the PPK, but I like the fact that the Mak has a slide release lever. Also, my PPK is .380 while the Mak is 9X18 - a slightly harder hitting round.
Back to the basic question - use Lee dies to reload for the 9X18. I would never convert to .380 because the 9X18 is a better round. They used to sell the .380 barrels because at first ammo was a tad scarce in 9X18. Kind of like putting a 265 Chevy small block in a Chevelle. You can do it - it will fit - but why bother?
I own a Russian Model and never knew that the bullet diameter for the 9x18 is larger than a standard 9mm Luger. Bought mine years ago new for $129.99 and it was money well spent.
I just picked up a P-64 and love it already. I find it is more comfortable to hold and shoot than a Walther PPK but not as much as a Bersa Thunder. I intend on cc'ing it as soon as I get the license.
I suggest finding one to try out, along with similar pistols to find the one you prefer.
