how come 01's don't take the time to read the regs?

Was looking at a turkish 8mm mauser and some other old long guns this am. Asked the dealer if he accepted C&R, and he said sure. Picked out a turk and a couple other small tems....and he said.. oh that one needs a 4473.. I asked why .. he said it wasn't C&R because it shot modern ammo... he then went on to say that had it been.. say.. 8mm lebel it would be C&R. We went back and forth a few moinutes.. then I left aggrivated.

I guess he doesn't know you can STILL get comercial loadings for 8mm lebel...

In any case. He wasn't happy. neither was I. I voted with my wallet and left.

Now.. before any 01's jump in and say he has the right to not take C&R.. SURE.. I agree. He can just not bother and sell everything on a 4473 if he wants to.

I'm fine with that.

But if he says he takes C&R.. maybee he should know what is and is not eligible! Seems like 8 out of 10 01's I deal with eah have some different 'GUESS' of what C&R means and the regs that govern what is and is not C&R.

It's delightfull to find the seemingly few that actually know their trade.

off soapbox now....

I do miss Midway and Grafs giving me the 10% discount as a C&R holder.

As a side note, on every website that I have ever ordered a gun from (C&R or not) have all had a list of FFLs that they do business with. Put in your zip code and check for the one closest to you.

Well, sent them an email about this, will see if they reply.

Here's the email that they sent me after I won the Mosin, I do think making me pay for shipping if it went to their store was a bit of BS, but I had it sent straight to the house.

Congratulations on being the winning bidder! Please call us at 1-888-542-6337 (option 3 for any firearms representative) so we can provide you with a total and to have your order set up. If you would like for us to contact you please reply to this email with your phone number and we will be glad to contact you. If you live close to a Gander Mtn store you can pick the firearm up there and not be charged the transfer fees, just the $25 shipping. Please have a copy of your FFL ready to email or fax (252-355-2923) to us if possible. We do accept C&R licenses for eligible firearms. Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

Probably in reference to having a firearm shipped there from another dealer. I did get an email back from them in response to my question, it seems to be a store policy on the C&R rather than a company, as they sent me the information for my local store and said to check with them.

With so many states making changes in their firearm laws, both negative and positive, it's not surprising if they left it up to the store managers to decide. If I was managing a store and inherited a bunch of newbs and dunderheads, I wouldn't want to risk them taking in a copy of someone's license that wasn't valid just through their lack of knowledge, or stupidity. I had to send mine in to the main office and set up an account with a verified phone number in order to do this purchase online.

Dealer was Pickett's Weaponry.

They argued that a turk Mauser was not c&r because it shot 8mm Mauser and that cartridge was still available. IE, their definition of cr was obsolete ammo...

Wish there was a TEST to get a FFL...
