Went to the lgs today to solve the problem with my MR 45. He had a used 686 in the case. I got it for $600. I know that's a good price but I remember buying a 586 for about $250 new when they first came out.

I will shoot this tomorrow and post a pic of the group. It feels like it's had an action job. Man it's smooth.

When did you buy your 586? I bought one new a couple years back....and I paid one hell of a lot more than that!
Gratz on the new gun.

I love my 6 1/4" 586. Had it since 1991, bought it used.......well to be honest. My first wife bought it as a gift for me, can't remember the occasion, so I don't know how much she paid. If you can believe, she wanted me to give it back to her and I told her "under no circumstance would I give her my revolver" as it was a gift. I did write her a note stating that I had possession of the pistol. What? Did she think I was going to shoot someone with it?

Wow! There's a tangent. At any rate, it is a great gun.

Your gonna love it. My 686 is about 32 years old and prefer it over my python.

My 686 6" is bit younger at about 28 years old,$240. What fine revolver, the trigger just gets better with time. The springs have lightened up a bit and the trigger parts must have smoothed out. Mine still functions 100 percent with the exception of reloads using CCI primers, bit too hard for the old springs I guess. Solution, I stopped shooting reloads with CCI primers in it. It shoots everything else fine and there is no way I am messing with the well "seasoned" trigger.
These are fine service revolvers, every one should have at least one.

Nice find! I would love to own a 696, blued. I just can't get up off of $800 that every one wants for one of these pistols.

I did own a 586. It had the finest trigger out of the box of any gun I have ever bought.
I gave it to the new police officer in the family several month ago, alone with the holster. His service pistol is a .40 Glock. I just want him to have a real gun. He loves it.

I have two 686s, one 6 inch and one 4 inch and I wouldn't part with either. I bought the first one when my son decided that he enjoyed the magnum round and I had already put my Python away due to the fact that you can't touch one for under $2,000 dollars these days and I enjoy the 686s just as much. My Python now is just an investment, I paid $484 back in the early 80's.
