I went back to 2010 here looking at past recipes and ideas and noticed one item not really covered *SPAM*. Yes an American culinary long time staple. ..well at least for some.

So do you like SPAM? What are some of your favorite ways to eat and cook it or any special recipes?

I was raised in the country in the 50's and 60's where money was tight so we were very frugal. We ate potted meat, Vienna sausages, hogs head cheese, and lots of canned meat (Spam). My favorite way and only way is making sammiches with it. One can will make three sammiches. We had these meats quite often when we were in the field working and my mom would bring us our lunch.

Probably not in the last 60 years or so but I ate a lot of fried spam sandwiches growing up. Even ate it all dressed up with an egg batter and rolled in corn flakes. I still eat Vienna sausages, they are my emergency food stock. I don't think I could go fishing with out some Viennies and some canned tomato juice. I am often tempted to buy some potted meat and spread it on crackers, ate a lot of that growing up too.

The regular kind is too salty, I get the reduced sodium kind. Slice it thin and pan fry with eggs and hash browns.

HAHA, I'm from hurricane country and Spam is a MUST. At the beginning of every hurricane season I buy up a bunch of canned foods and Spam is at the top of the list. I love egg sandwiches with it and my girls like it too. My wife on the other hand... hates the stuff

So after hurricane season has passed we start getting into the stock of canned goods and first thing I do is cook up the Spam and giggle while my wife has to eat it for dinner.

I convinced her a due for not getting flattened this year, LOL.

I eat a slice of the Bacon SPAM fried, fired egg, between two slices of lightly buttered toast every morning unless I decided to make the effort to whip up some scratch biscuits and sausage gravy. I have eaten it out of the can, used to always pack some with me when we went out to the field in the military for the times when the stuff the mess brought out to us was less palatable than cold mystery meat...which was pretty often. Then there were the times when we moved positions and they had no idea where we were, always good to have my own stock of food!

We don't go hunting, or fishing with out plenty of Spam. Eat it right out of the can. I had Spam samiches for supper last night. The wife likes it too, but she wants hers fried. I have discovered over the years that there are just some things I like to eat, and the wife don't want any part of them. I let her buy what she wants to eat if we don't already have it, and I buy what I want to eat. My brother is always hollering that his wife won't cook this, or won't cook that! Be a man! If you want it buy it. If your wife won't cook it for you, cook it for yourself!

^^^^SPAM museum moving where?

I had to ask the wife if we had any Spam she said yes so I'm really hungry for some fried Spam and eggs or on a sandwich with melted cheese. ...only if I have some right out of the can! Must be a adolescent memory thing kind of like Vienna sausages with mustard & mayo....ummm. ;)

Oh anyone have any Spam clothes or other stuff? Yeah I guess that would be A kinda' hard core Spam lover.

The same spam sammich recipe as mine with only 2 exceptions, the onion must be a Vidalia onion, and I use mustard instead of mayo. That said, I wouldn't turn down your sammich if offered. Joe

The term Wiener is German. In German Wiener means Viennese, or Vienna. We have hot dogs, a sausage, and we have Vienna sausage. And as far as I know, they don't make Vienna Sausage in Vienna, LA. :D When I was a kid I thought Vienna Sausages came from Vienna, LA. Just like I thought Vidalia Onions came from Vidalia, LA! :D Just an country boy who had no idea of how big the world really was!

And they are good right out of the can!:D

It's not the meat that I don't like, I think it is the name, and the memories of the Green spam and powdered eggs I got for breakfast many times while serving in South America with the Amy.

I bought a can of Armour Treet on the way home from the range yesterday and I ate Treet sandwiches for lunch and supper last night, so I know it's not what it's made of!! A psychological thing I guess!

Well since the SPAM topic was just recently brought up again even for suppertime I figured why not dig it up again.

And yes I love SPAM out of the fridge, room temp or in a skillet -or- right out of the can. Why not !

I think I'd give my cardiologist his final coronary, if he saw a can of SPAM in my house.
I've eaten it cooked AND out of the can, but prefer it cooked. Since I am now actively trying to lower my cholesterol through diet, I don't get to eat such "fun stuff" very often. Sometimes, I really miss it.

I actually GET why people who've eaten lotsa SPAM don't like it anymore. No argument from me. If I'd had to eat it, and little else, in tough conditions, I'd likely eschew it's very existence.
Not having been from such a history, I can't say that it brings any BAD feelings from eating it or having to eat it. But I'll also quickly agree that a little of it goes a VERRY long way.
