Took a trip into town today to pick some .22lr at Gander MT. They had American Eagle for 2.99 a box of 50, and also Fed. Auto match 325 ct. I think it was about $22.00 a box. But to my surprise they had cci .22 mags. 200 ct. box. for $59.90. Wasn't even advertised, I was a happy camper. Haven't seen any .22 magnum in about a year. Ended up with 5 boxes of Am. Eagle .22lrs, and a box of the cci .22mags. Made the trip into town worth it. Didn't really need the .22lr, and debated if I wanted to drive in just to pick up 250 rounds, decided to get it when its there. Lucky I did! Guess i'll be dusting the Henry Golden boy off next week when I hit the range.

Geez George try to contain yourself.:) Its not such a bad deal when even 3 years ago around here CCIs were going for around $14.00 to $15.00 for a box of 50. So 3 years later, they are about the same price. Also they just haven't had them around here in long time. In my area anyway. Maybe down in your area they are more common. Also here in NY we can't get them over the net. Around Here, its get them when they have them. Anyways I won't be bringing them back waiting another year or two hopeing the price drops down a dollar or two.

I know it sounds expensive but what's it worth to have a gun you can shoot? They really have us over a barrel with all the rimfire ammo. Kind of like gasoline. Guess I could choose to walk everywhere :confused: but not really. Whatever ridiculous price they decide to charge is what I have to pay if I want to operate my car. Same with rimfire ammo. 22 Mag is going for $17 a box when I can find it so that's what I pay. Now there are limits, I wouldn't pay $50 for either a gallon of gasoline nor a box of 22 ammo so I guess they just haven't reached my cutoff point yet.

Happy Shooting and good luck at the range.

I haven't looked for any 22 mag, but when our local WM has automatch it is a good price.
This is from brass badger;

Our local WallyWorld has not had ANY .22 ammo for a LONG TIME. Seems to have become a custom for the local folks to watch for the delivery trucks (like vultures) and scurry over and stand in line to scarf up the stuff that comes off of the trucks. That is either .22 mag or any .22 of any kind. Bass Pro had 300 count CCI .22 AR Tactical for $22 last weekend. 'Course there are no houses for the vultures to perch and stalk from near Bass Pro like in town. I haven't seen any .22 Mag around Colorado for a couple of years.

We have vultures here too. My son works in WM sporting goods and says the same people are waiting for them to bring it out every week.

The last .22 mag. I bought was almost 2 years ago, and I paid $8.95 for a box of 50. That's .17 cents per bullet. I haven't seen any since. I hear stories about people buying them, but I personally haven't seen them since my last purchase. I have a sufficient amount of .22 mag. stored back, and will buy more as I find it, but I won't be paying $60 for a 200 count box! That's $0.30 a bullet! I can buy .223, or 7.62X39 cheaper than $.30 a bullet! How ever, if I were completely out, or almost, I suppose that would seem like a good deal!

Yea carver I could probably buy .223, or 7.62x39 cheaper than .3o a bullet too, but I'd be wasting my money because I don't own anything that can shoot those rounds, However I do have a .22 magnum, so that's what I have to buy and that's what the going rate is here, when they have it. Which was over a year ago. A friend of mine said he saw some in a lgs a couple of weeks ago, they wanted $19.95 for a box of 50. They really have us over a barrel in this state, cause we can't shop over the internet. So it's pretty much, is what it is here.

I know what you mean. My favorite caliber is .44 special, but you can only buy the lead "Cowboy" ammo for it, and that's hard to find in the local stores.

The kicker is that I wasn't even looking for it, went in to see if they had any of the Tulammo 7.62x54r on hand as I wanted to give it a try in one of the Mosin's. Saw the Winchester on the shelf, only had about 8 boxes of it, figured I'd probably be wise to grab a few boxes in case someone wants to haul out the Heritage Rough Rider. I only have a total of 400 rounds on hand, so didn't consider this to be hoarding!

I've got a RSR in .454/.45 Colt and I can find the ammo, just not at the price they're asking for it. Centerfire big-bore handgun ammo has taken an unfortunate upward spiral price-wise in recent years. That's why like you Carver, I have to roll my own.
And I've noticed that primers/powder and bullets are coming back, though more expensively. not so much empty brass though.

Shootbrownelk, I also roll my own, have since 1986. No way I could afford to shoot .45 colt as much as I do if I didn't. Been thinking about getting into casting for more savings, like caver said. Just haven't taken the plunge yet.

Regarding expensive ammo-I prefer to have it when i need it even if I pay a little more. The world we used to know is changing rapidly so I'll gladly pay (with in reason of course) for what I need as long as it is available. Internet purchases make it easier to find what you like or need (of course shipping adds to higher prices) but I heard recently through a preper's video that such an option may be squelched due to future legislation. The anti-gun folks will do anything to take away your joy, freedom and ultimately safety.
