how does your measure work with stick powders? I'm thinking of a 550 but I use stick powders for my rifle loads. I know on my stand alone Hornady and RCBS measures it has the occasional attitude when it has to cut a stick but I just give it a good shove and carry on. Does the Dillon measure linkage and actuating mechanism hold up well to this?

The best answer to all of this is to buy a HORNADY LNL AP, yes the LNL AP by HORNADY is upselling and far superior to all other presses, just buy the HORNADY since everyone including grandad says they are the best it must be true. No other manufacturer has the ability to surpass the superior engineering design of the Hornady LNL AP so why purchase anything else????o_O

Merely a touch of satire, but that's quite a statement there bout your powder measure, sure wish there was something that accurate in real life!

Respectively I would like to see that. So you are saying you can take any stick powder of any weight from the data book and never be more than 0.100 grains off? I have not ran the Dillon yet but will be running the SDB, the RL55B, and the XL605 pretty quick.

I have ran quite a few powder measures and I mean quite a few and not one of them will do what you are saying. I understand the vertical drop Dillon offers with their powder measure is as good as it gets but even at that you are saying 0.100 gr and no more deviation than that? You say never off? So, throwning 50.0 gr of your choice of stick powder, out of 100 rounds you will hold +/- 0.1 gr?

I have three Hornady powder measures and have proven on video how well they meter powder and they are outstanding. They will not hold 0.1 gr and honestly the Hornady powder measures ARE EXCELLENT!!!

I have two Redding Model No. 3 powder measures and they are 3 times the powder measure the Hornady is. The rotor edge is so sharp it will not cut you. Instead it will slice you open and I did it while filming one of my videos. It cut me so quick and deep that it went to the bone. The rotor is so tightly fit and perfectly true on the Redding that it creates it's own bearing surface. The Redding has little trouble cutting extruded powder. Even the Redding will not hold 0.1 gr with stick powders consistently. If they did hold 0.1 gr consistently they would not need to throw low and trickle up.

I am not doubting you because I have not worked with Dillon yet. I just know I have never seen a powder measure be that precise and I mean this to be respectful towards you.

The only exception to my above, might be 300MP powder. Great stuff but hard to get it just right because it is so fine. Dillon machines are the cats-meow with only the primer system being difficult (at times). I have a micro meter on my powder stem. Yes, I may see .2 but not often. I'm so certain on my powder drops, I "very seldom check every 25 rounds or so). One thing I do which is extremely important is to adjust the powder throw with ALL stations working simultaneously.

All measures have problems with long stick powders. But the solution is simple...Don't buy long stick powders!

In every burning rate powder class there is a ball powder close equivalent. Most measures have no problem with ball powders. A second option is to buy the Hodgdon Short Cut powders. In some of the common IMR rifle powders Hodgdon offers a short cut Hodgdon brand version but only use the specific Hodgdon powder data for the cartridge of interest. The Hodgdon Short Cut powders meter better the long stick versions.

Then there is the modern realization by the experts (John Barsness, not me!) that powder weight variations for rifle cartridge use of less than a tenth or two tenths grain, make virtually little difference in accuracy. All the remaining variables in just shooting a gun swamp out powder variation this small. Weighing every charge is a waste of time and effort and worrying about such small variation is unnecessary.
