I've noticed some light surface rust form on my dies even though I keep them in their boxes when not in use. Just wondering what others may be using to stave off the rust. Thanks!
A more permanent solution is to tape off the threads and spray them down with clear lacquer. I live about 5 miles from the Gulf Coast and corrosion and rust are a huge problem. I've started spraying everything I can with clear lacquer and it really helps. If you can't spray them down a coat of oil is the next best.
A friend that lives down the street from me bought an old refrigerator that does not work to store his tools in. He keeps damp rid in there and never has a rust problem.
I've been cleaning my new dies with Hornady gun cleaner and rust inhibitor spray and that has worked fine the past year or so, but I do like the clear lacquer suggestion as a long term solution.
I've started spraying every hand tool I can with clear lacquer - hammer heads, screw driver shafts, wrenches, and any other metal surface that is non-contact. I have to keep battery powered tools and their batteries covered and sealed with plastic wrap or they will corrode and be unusable in about a month.
Around here it is not just humid it is salt air humid and that is rough on any metal surface that is not either aluminum or a high alloy of chrome, nickel, or vanadium.
I believe that is a threat!!! Looks like I had better straighten up. Then again, I think you missed a spot. Bwhwhwhwhwhw.
