ys :) .

As you know I've been stocking up on ammo for my SKS. The 3 best options we have available are wolf, tula & fms. I like wolf better than tula but I didn't know anything about fms so I picked up a bunch at Cabelas recently. I didn't know anything about it and I figured it would look just like tula or wolf but surprisingly it looks just like the silver bear i used to buy.

I haven't shot any of this yet but I really liked Silver Bear and it was pretty nice ammo. FMC is also cheaper than wolf and tula @ 5.50 a box. If this turns out to be best choice I will gladly stock up on it while I can.

I was wondering what your guys thoughts and opinions were on this ?. Since I didn't know anything about it I did some googling and borrowed this from the SKS board ...

MFS used to be the Hungarian Military ammo plant. Then they shut down after the break up of the old Soviet Union
and moved towards the West. It started back up as MFS 2000 as I recall. But they were tied in with AEY of Miami who got a $300,000,000 US Government Contract to supply all 7.62X39 ammo to the Afgan Military and Police.
Well, it was not all MFS ammo sent there. Many rounds of old corroded Chinese and out dated ammo was sent as Hungarian. Short of it is, they all got caught and were banned from any further .Gov Contracts for X39 ammo.
MFS played around with the AEY owner, a 21 year old at the time guy from Miami. Shell companies and middlemen known to do illegal arms trafficking were also involved. It was a real mess.
I do not think the MFS plant in Hungary is allowed to sell X39 here. Perhaps no other calibers in that contract either.
Anyway, Ruag did buy them out. Most likely a number of calibers are made in Russia so they can be imported here under the MFS name. As I read it, too many fingers in the pie and many still are paying for it as far as US business is concerned.

I don't think it would what brand you shoot, as long as you have plenty. I've never heard of this ammo either, but if that's what was on the shelf, I'd buy all I could afford to buy.

Well, for an SKS in 7.62x39 as long as the bullets exit the barrel you're good to go. You want a reliable ammo as the SKS ain't known for it's accuracy so as long as the ammo functions it's good. I really like my SKS (I put a Ramline stock and Williams receiver sight on it) and shoot a lot of Wolf (both Bears) and Red Army ammo. My average groups are about 4"-5" at 50 yards and with PMC ammo I occasionally get 2"-3" groups. My SKS is one of my "bug out" guns and I have at least 100 rounds in clips in a ammo pouch.
