Hello all. Im thinking about adding a new pistol to my modest collection and am hoping to get some outside opinions and feedback.
I tend to steer toward classic or time proven designs (1911, hi-power, beretta 92), and ive always wanted to own a sig or glock. Having said that, here are my preferences...full or mid size pistol (no sub compacts), ubiquitous or classic model in the manufacturer's line, and availability of high capacity mags and aftermarket parts/upgrades.
Also, i would also REALLY like the option of easy caliber conversions down the line. That probably means a pistol in .40 caliber (making the option of a 9mm or .357 sig barrel a possibility).
Any thoughts on specific models? I would love to hear your opinions.
When I looked the link you provide and read the definition, the first thing that popped into my mind was that glock surly dues fall into that category, they are everywhere!!

My next gun purchase,I was saving for a S&W model-10 and even bid on some really nice ones on GB until the price got to high on a few nice ones.So there I was minding my own business and I saw a High Standard Sentinel -107 9-shot 22 in perfect shape that I sold off a few years back just like it.Having sold that gun still bugged me after doing so.Bidding started off a $199.00 and one person bid then I bid $220.00 and won a couple days later.I've seen them go for $350 in that kinda condition. Now I have to start all over with S&W model-10 money again. It was an impulse buy and couldn't help myself.
Thats what happens when you mind your own business! For all my indecisiveness on my next autoloader, im also considering going with an s&w model 66 or 19 with a 4" barrel.
I thought I had the perfect answer for you - until I read the hi-cap mag requirement. The CZ is a good call, as it IS modern and kinda-sorta "classic". The other that disqualified my answer was the caliber swap part. But a classic (other than the things you asked for) would have been a Walther p38 or a Colt 1911. For a REAL classic - you can't beat a Luger. But none of these are hi-cap, and only one (1911) is converted to another caliber easily. The Lugers are getting too old to shoot a lot anyway.
You'll like the CZ.
Tiger - don't give up on that Model 10. They are out there if you are patient. I bought a really nice 5" barrel .38 Special for about $150 at a Gun Show. The seller had 2 (the other was a 4" barrel), but I wanted the 5" barrel like the one I carried many years ago. The one I bought had just a tad of the bluing thin on the top strap, but otherwise was in very good condition.
I'm considering the Ruger American pistol in 9mm as my next pistol purchase (and first plastic, striker-fired handgun). It got what looked like a pretty good write-up in a recent American Rifleman magazine article. Of course, most of their write-ups sound like advertisements. Anyone have any comments on it?

An acquaintence of mine bought a Ruger 1911 a while back and i had a chance to handle it and check it out closely (no chance to fire it though). The quality and workmanship surprised me, even as a long time Ruger fan.
The problem with my next gun purchase is sometimes it gets overtaken by an impulse buy. Then I have to start all over again with funds when they come available
It's an overwhelming force in the universe that's very powerful! .
Well after getting the M1 I'm really down to 3 "must have" weapons before I start goign all half cocked and buying whatever strikes me at the moment. Yeah that's it. Anyway I think at this point I really NEED the following three items.
1. 1911 .45 pistol.
2. .44 Mag (or larger) revolver.
3. A bolt action rifle in .308 or larger. Maybe a scout style setup.
After that its things like an old 8mm Mauser, cowboy action revolvers, lever guns, various surplus military firearms, most pistols, more shotguns. Just more guns. Can't go wrong with more guns.

Springfield M1A Scout/Squad. Here in CA I can't get a standard or any of the upgrades, but the Scout is legal because it has a muzzle brake instead of a flash suppressor...
