What would you do? I have a chance to buy a model 1885 winchester cal. 25-20 sigle shot rifle in very good condition. Probem is its a lot of money. Im 63 and have worked hard and steady my entire life but like most people i have always had to be careful with money, income/expences. I have some ready cash now but my insides tell me i might need that money in a couple of years to pay doctors, ect. I would love to have and shoot this riffle as part of my 25-20 arsenal. Naturally I am thinking of throughing caution out the window and buying this riffle. Any experianced advise?
You've come to the wrong place if you are looking for someone to talk you out of buying a rifle! My advice, for what it's worth, is go for it, you only live once.
Good original condition '85 Winchesters are something that will hold or increase in value over time, they don't make them anymore.
Given that it will hold it's value if for some reason you need cash in the future, it will be something you can convert to cash. Think of it like money in the bank that you can take to the range and enjoy.
I'm close to your age and have the same worries.
Having said that, I just bought a near mint condition Remington Rolling block.
I've wanted one for probably the last forty years and finely just went out and bought it.
It takes a while to truly under stand.....You only live once. So, quit wishing you had one ( just buy it) and enjoy it while you still can.
I'm like the OP. Worked for everything I've ever had, always careful with my money. Sometimes I think it's time to stop acquiring firearms, and just enjoy what I have, but I keep running into stuff I've either always wanted or just decided I'd like to have. I'm kinda going the middle ground, only buying stuff that's either a really good deal, or something I've wanted badly a long time.
We're the same age and have evidently experienced the same kind of life regards work and watching the dollars. We can't take any of it with us. As was observed in a George Strait song, "I never saw a Hearse with a luggage rack". My thought is unless any purchase is going to cause a hardship or is completely foolish it should be seriously considered. As has been mentioned an 1885 as you described probably isn't going to decrease in value. Were it me I would more than likely go for it. What am I saying, I just did that very thing....
Thanks for all the possitive advice. Sometimes it helps to bounce ideas off of people who share similar values. Think I will be going to the range with a 1885 in he near future.
