your 'nightstand' pistol

Ok.. so it doesn't have to be night stand, etc. just really whatever 'close at hand' pistol you have where you sleep, be it under a matress, in/on the night stand, headboard drawer.. etc.

My wife keeps a 38 snubby. ( T85 ) Up to this point I had been keeping a .380 ( sig p230 or p238 ) OR a cheap ( star ) 45acp... but I'm reconsidering and thinking of putting a 357mag wheel gun there. I really like my rossi 972. points well, not too heavy.. good rubber grip... just curious what 'small grab' other people are using, IF you use a small grab gun.

I know some of us have a small grab AND a large grab.. IE.. shotty over the bed or in a rack AND a handgun.. and I know some of us just keep a long gun.. etc.

So.. if you have a handgun for quick use for close encounters.. what is it?

thanks

This,(CZ 75 PCR) and 12 feet away in the walk in closet, a Winchester 12 gauge with double ought.
In the office, hidden under the desk near my right knee... a S&W Model 66-3 .357 magnum.
House has cameras that record (and I can view live-feedfrom Smart phone) house is alarmed, and a dog that is pretty nasty if she doesn't know you and no one is around. When we go on vacation, all firearms are stored in the safe.

My wife calls it overkill, I call it Risk Mitigation.

My EDC in an open holster clipped to the bed frame with spare mag. Ka-Bar in the night stand. A 12 gauge, a .410 (both pump), and just in case a 30.06 semi automatic hanging on the rack next to the bed. Plus a multitude of hand to hand weapons throughout the rest of the house.

Wife has a Ruger P95DC with a laser sight and a 32 mag derringer on her side. I have a Mossberg 18 1/2" pump, a Colt Gold Cup beside me. I also have one of my Dad's homemade Tomahawks on the wall. I keep a M1 Garand handy as well. I keep a Ithaca pump next to my easy chair in the living room. I set gunfighter style with my back to the wall where I can cover the front two windows and the door if needed. A friend of mine joked with me that I was paranoid. I replied that I was not paranoid, but prepared and that there is a thin line between the two!

Springfield XD .40 Service Loaded with a round in the chamber with two spare mags all loaded with Critical Duty in a handgun lock box at the base of my nightstand. It has a key lock but I unlock it and slide the drawer out an inch at night. All my other firearms are in my safe upstairs. If thirty rounds of .40 won't stop the threat or threats I'm in trouble anyways. And a break barrel shotgun and an AR with a bullet button is not going to help.

I have the Taurus PT-809 loaded with 124 gr. JHPs with spare 17 round mag. Not 5 steps away is the FrankenAR with a 30 round mag loaded with 55 gr FMJ. Right beside that is the Mossberg 500 with 5 rounds of 00 Buck. I think that's a good list.

I keep my carry peice on the dresser next to me, it is almost always a Sig p238, unless I'm carrying a diffrent one, if I go camping I take my ruger lc9s but this winter I want to start carrying the S&W .38special snub revolver.

My S&W 442 with Gold Dots. I have had that pistol 20+ years. Was my off-duty/backup weapon when I was an LEO. That Surefire is a great tac-light. Very bright. Honestly, not sure if I would have the presence of mind to grab the speed strips with extra rounds in a critical situation at the house. No place to put them in the boxer skivvies I sleep in, but they're there anyway.
If I can't take care of business with whatever went bump in the night with that 442, I'm in a lot of trouble and better start fighting my way to my M-4 locked in the closet, ha ha. Honestly doubt though that I'd ever need 30 rounds of 5.56 ball to flush a turd intent on my borrowing without permission my flatscreen tv.

Either my Hi-Point 40 or my Tauus pt 24/7 45, on my night stand I carry the Taurus IWB usually, but with the onset of winter, and heavier coats I can carry the 40 as well. one or the other is in what ever room I am in.

Mossy 590 with light in the foreshock.
But in addition to the bed gun what is more important, what is your early warning device and what is your "plan" if the flag goes up?
Anyone who believes they will magically jump out of bed primed, ready to fight and clear headed is smoking some really good stuff. You should offer to share.
And if you have a wife and or children, do "they"" know what your plan is and what to do IMMEDIATELY. Obviously, they are an integral part of whatever is happening.
In addition I hope all of you (practice) your plan with as much reality as possible.
Bad enough under normal circumstances, much, much worse if you are in bed in your own home sound asleep and are suddenly and without warning attacked.
Food for thought; what if you are physically involved with the bad guy(s), does your wife or children know what to do?
Its certainly not just what you have by the bed its whether or not you or your significant other will have a chance to put it to use.

You are 100% correct on the being awoken from a deep sleep by some type of noise or disturbance such as a door crashing in, or a window breaking. There is that time space there of disseminating the situation and then reacting.
If you have ever experienced it, you know what I am talking about.

That's just one more reason for the 70 pound Plott Hound/Lab mix that we have. Nice, deep, resonating bark that sounds like he's coming for your throat, big white teeth, and a deep barrel chest that's all muscle. He doesn't like anyone he doesn't know coming n the house, especially with my two little girls in there.

Guys and gals
I had a chance to rethink this and wish I hadn't posted my experience. I did it with good intention but Im not sure it is appropriate or this is the place to do it.
Whomever is the moderator, if this is not right, please don't move it, just delete it with my apology to everyone.
