By this I mean a shot you made on purpose with at least some expectation that you would hit. Bragging time- go!

Ahhhh...ok! I remember that thread now. Nice rifle indeed!! Did you ever get the walking of shots remedied? I expect Axel is right as are you and the glass bedding, if I understand right, is not allowing for ANY movement from expansion thus pulling the barrel lower. Congrats with your first deer with that rifle! Ain't no fly's on the 8X57!

Did you ever hook up with Mike? He is a fine fella, though we've never met, and has helped me tons with the old German firearms.

No, didn't try to come up with a solution for the vertical stringing. I just decided to make the first shot count!

The deer jumped just as the trigger broke and I hit it right at the diaphragm. Despite that, the deer went down PDQ. Yep, I'd say the 8X57/Partition combo did rat well....

I did get over to Lafayette and spent a morning with Mike and company. Have been meaning to get back but haven't as yet. That dude has forgotten more about Mausers than I will ever know.

Back when I was in the Corps, I usually had some trouble at 500 yards with the M16. I can't post pictures of this, they were electronic targets and cameras were not allowed on the range, but on my last trip to the range before my discharge I got three headshots in a row at 500...wasn't aiming for the head, but I had a reasonable expectation that I was going to hit at least the target, so I guess it counts anyway. The rest of the shots at 500 were my standard fair. all over the place with about 50% of my shots on my man sized target and a few on they guy's next to me. :D

Well done Mr. Brown!!! I think that's the first target I've seen you post.

Hook, Mike has forgotten more about German firearms period, than I will ever know!!! If he, Axel or raimey don't know it I'm not certain it's knowable!!

I must confess my best shot ever wasn't with rifle, because my rifle was in the Jeep about thirty yards away and I had just climbed down from filling up my dad's feeder. I looked over toward the fence and saw a white tail for just standing
there 75 yards away. This is on a
Sunday about 30 min until sunset
near Eldorado, TX hadn't seen a
single deer all weekend. I easy my
.44 Ruger Superblackhawk out of my holster, braced up against the ladder, pulled the hammer back, and squeezed off the shot. The doe fell right there. I drove the Jeep to field dress what was left of my doe and there was a smaller doe laying there with her. Never saw the second one until then. Thought to myself John Wayne ain't got nothing on me.

I was at the range once and a friend brought out a Savage model 99 in 303 Savage, with a 1 1/2 power scope on it. He couldn't get it to hit paper, and asked me to give it a try. Shooting standing offhand, at 100 yds. I fired one shot, put it 1/2" low, centered. Told him it looked like it was sighted in fine to me, and never shot it again. :)

My best rifle shot was at an animal, but no game animal. Born of necessity rather than sport. I was visiting my in laws for the weekend when a dog came up behind the rabbit hutch. My FIL yelled at the dog and he hightailed it out. Apparently this dog killed 3 rabbits in the last 2 weeks. I was told if I seen him with a gun in my hand to kill him. Fast forward to the next day I'm in the woods squirrel hunting when this dog Saunders out of the brush about 30 yards out. I raised up my marlin model 60 .22lr and he took out. He made it 20 yards before the one shot I took hit him right behind the ear. It was extremely lucky cuz the bullet went through the brush to get him.

I do not shoot at big game animals over somewhere between 250 to 300 yds. But one time long ago I had a young step son with me shooting a 223 Rem on a 788 Rem rifle. 3-9x scope on it and shooting off sand bags over the hood of the cr, 100yds. The was one great shooting rifle so I took a 223 case and about 3" above the bull, drew a circle around the rim. Told him I could hit it. Pretty sure that was easy enough so went back and fired one shot. Figured all I had to do was aim at the target center and the trajectory of the bullet would raise it 3". Well we went down there and there it was, dead center on the circle I drew! I didn't offer to do it again

There was one other time in Montana I was out with the ex and had my Rem 788 along in 222. I've had a number of really fine shooting rifles in my time but that 222 was the best by a long shot! Spotted movement about 300yds out and had the wife look for it with the bino's, she couldn't see it. I had it in the scope at 9x and looked like a gopher mound to me. Then it moved again and I caught that. Sent a 50gr Hornady SX after it and dead center on the body. Stepped it off and was about 310 paces. Thosse little sucker's were a hoot to shoot!
