I have to work Sunday and due practice time with my CCW , will be in line at the Indoor Range Saturday morning. The little M&P is like an Engine , performs best when it gets warmed up so may need a couple more boxes of 9MM.
Went to the Range earlier today and fired a 100 rd box. Wish could do better but have to make do with the low profile Novak sights. Maybe a M&P Pro 9 with an Optic next summer
I had a S&W model-59 nickle plated a few years back but sold it and bought something else.I do that from time to time with some of my guns.It was the predecessor to the Model-5906 I'm pretty sure.I think it was an old cops gun because the barrel was about shot out.
Mod 59 1971-80 replaced with an updated version 459 1980-88 . 803 were made for the FBI with special grips , one in good in good shape now is worth $$$$
Took an old friend shooting yesterday. Remington 700 Varmint Synthetic 308. With Canadian surplus ammo she was shooting 3" ish groups @100 yards. Shooting some old Venezuelan stuff about an 1.5" with weird flyers every group opening it up to 4+". That ammo seems a little hot, extraction was stiff. With Federal 168 grain OTM the ol girl would hold 1/2" if I did my part. The cheap old Simmons scope didn't make it easy, guess my old eyes require I step up and put a little better glass on this solid gun.
Tried to sight in my 10/22 with Primary Arms Scope today and unable to adjust the elevation. I removed the Scope and all was on target with Iron Sights at 25 to 50 yards.
I'm going to double check if I was doing it correctly, I had the rifle on shooting bags and holding still . I was turning the side turrent? to adjust to were it was hitting and never seen it move up or down
Thanks BlackEagle I was doing it wrong ,should have checked the manual. I'm going to reinstall it correctly with locktite and scope rings. I'm limited with eye relief adjustment with the one piece mount. It felt great to get out to the range and sunshine , I'm overwhelmed with back bills ,Insurance , unemployment forms and now the D.O.T wants Med records
OK...Fill out some forms, take a range break, go back to the forms, take a walk and enjoy nature, fill out more forms. Go to bed. Sleep. Wake up. Take a walk and enjoy nature. Fill out more forms. Take a range break to work off the frustration. Fill out more forms. Run a mile or two to enjoy nature and work off frustrations (by now your frustrations overwhelm any back problems you may have).
Repeat until all the forms are filled in, sent in, and your ammo is exhausted.
Out the other day with a New Ruger American Rimfire (22). Bushnell scope with parallax set to 100, 100 yard range. Couldn't get it anywhere close to where I wanted it. Bore sight, look thru the scope. Who knows where the bullet went. Yesterday, 50 yard range, parallax on the scope set to 50, one inch groups. 200 rounds shot. And 150 9mm thru my 9mm SA RO (G) I dunno, maybe senior moments on the 100 yard range. I'll try the 100 again next week..
I always take one or two of my handguns along to finish up the .22 targets . A few rounds of rapid fire with my 9mm Shield and shooting my old .357 helps vent some frustration.
I generally take a long gun and a hand gun. First thing I drive by at the range is the 100 yard range. If its crowded (like three shooters out of 12 stations!) I can go to one of the 50 yard or shorter bays with the handgun.
Six or seven years ago I couldn't get my scope to adjust properly. After a box of ammo I gave up for the day. I was shooting out the door of my shop, and when I went to pull the door down, saw that the pull rope was severely damaged. It took a while to add 2+2. Tried it the next day with the rope out of the way, and all was good.
I considered changing from the Mount to Rings but no since wasting money. I reinstalled Scope this afternoon , leveled the best I could and used Locktite. I'll take it out next week
Finally got my scope zeroed in today , it was really bad off. I put it on center of the Right target and it hit far left bottom corner on the left target . I shot a zig zag lining it up and it was dead on at 25 yards and spread at 50. The wind was blowing today , may go back Wed. with CCI and Auto Match
Returned today and did somewhat of a Ammo test at 100 yards. Yellow - Aquila 40 Granos Interceptor. Orange- 40 Grain Fed Auto match. Green- CCI 36 Grain Mini Mags. The Aquila performed the best , the real fun was plinking a large coffee can lid making it flip back and forth
Went out to the Range with plans shooting 10/22 on a nice day . After a small elevation adjustment POI was just right at 50 yards. I locked the bolt to run a Rip Cord through and the bolt release jammed. Back home found the lock spring had jumped off the bolt release , have no idea how . At least I'm learning how to disassemble and assemble 10/22 trigger
Returned to the range today and think I did good with a few hits at 75 yards with wind.
I had plans for a .920 barrel but changed my mind and sold the Hunter X-2 stock.
Switched back to the original stock, decided to save for a nice . 22 pistol Mark IV or Single Six
I didn't actually do any shooting today, but our club hosted the local chapter of the Airbourne Alliance. We had a great day. Veterans all, they enjoyed getting out on the range.
I brought my Jager .22 (looks like an M-16), my Ruger 10-22, and my gallery rifle. Several guys shot the Jager for its looks. I took my bench rest, and they shot the center out of the targets!!
They took their targets home, happy shooters. The Jager was a "fun gun" to shoot; the gallery rifle was the most satisfying. That was their verdict.
A few of our club members brought black powder revolvers; one brought his Gibbs muzzle loading rifle and gave people a crack on those if they wanted. I had brought my Remington 1858 along, but was too busy supervising people on my .22's and gallery rifle to bring it out.
After around three hours of general shooting, we had a barbeque lunch, then back out to the range for a competition among the members of the Airbourne Alliance. They had a ball. One guy particularly requested my Jagerr; another used my Ruger 10-22. He took home a trophy.
For me it was as much fun watching them shoot as it is for me to shoot.
Exercised the Rem 700 Ought 6 with 175gr match bullets and Win 760 powder.
That little chit in the last picture slept in the truck whilst the range was busy.
This was taken a few years ago, but it shows one stage of a gallery rifle competition.
The smaller targets are for those shooting .22 (semi auto, mostly Ruger 10-22), the larger for those shooting lever action .44 or .38/.357. The targets are on programmable turners. For a timed and deliberate stage, we get, for example, two minutes to shoot 12 rounds starting with six loaded at 25 yards. For other stages we go up to the 15 and 10 yard line. There we might have a three second exposure for a single shot, or five seconds for a double tap. Some competitions we have stages where we go back to the 50 yard line; others we change positions--sitting, kneeling, prone, strong shoulder, weak shoulder...all with a good dose of time pressure.
Maximun score is often 300 depending on which competition we are shooting, with hits in the X ring being the deciding factor in a tie score. Some guys get into the high 200's. I go along to have fun. I usually make everyone else look good at these competitions.
Hey, someone tell that guy in the middle that the line is hot!
