I picked up a used wood stock on eBay a couple weeks ago. I decided to put it on my savage 110 tactical in 7mm rem mag. The stock was a sporter barrel contour and my 7 mag is a bull barrel. Opening the barrel channel was the first task. After that I bedded the action with JB Weld.
Then I set out to remove the old finish. I didn't want to mess with the checkering since it was in very good condition so, I didn't use any stripper. Just careful sanding. After the sanding was completed, I taped off the checkering with scotch blue painters tape. I highly recommend this tape if you need some quality masking tape. It's way better than that garbage frog tape.
I decided to go with a nice red oak stain. I only used one coat because I didn't want the stock really dark. I topped it all off with 9 coats of tru-oil.

Don't mind the mess
