45 Long colt
Has anyone used Win. 571 powder to load 45 lc . Would like to hear some load info if anyone has anything on it. Looking for normal pressure loads . Specifically for hornady xtp 300 gr hollow point bullets or 255 gr cast bullets.
Thanks Charlie |
Re: 45 Long colt
did you find this powder listed for this bullet and caliber? if not suggest you look at manufactures website.(the powder manufactures site that is)

Re: 45 Long colt
WW571 (the same powder as Hodgdon HS-7) is pretty slow burning for standard .45 Colt loads.
It's more suitable for magnum loads like the .41/.44 Mag or the .454 Casull class cartridges. http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp Hodgdon doesn't list any loads for the powder under either name in their online manual. |
Re: 45 Long colt
yep the ol W571 is obsolete and isnt made anymore, but as Bindernut mentioend HS-7 is interchangeable and you can use HS-7 data to load with older lots of W571.
It is a bit too slow for .45 colt loads unless you are loading hot for a ruger or T/C singleshot. |
Re: 45 Long colt
Thanks guys I think 300 gr is too heavy for 571 I saw a load of 13 to 14 gr for a cast 250 gr bullet. Was just hoping someone had used this before on heavier bullets.
