Re: shapening the knives
kitchen knives my dad had a stone maybe 6 " diameter 1/2"-1" wide u hook it up to the faucet and the wheel turns and u wet the wheel and sharpen what u want. when they had a summer cabin (and i mean summer cabin) my dad had a large grinding wheel and u sat in front of it like a bike and pedal to get the stone turning and that is how i use to sharpen the ax-what do u use to sharpen

Re: shapening the knives
I use diamond steels. and sharpen the edge into them much like trying to slice a very thin layer of the steel off. Then when i have progressed thru the finer grits and have a fine edge i strop on the razor strop course then fine in the opposite motion as the steels. blade is sharp when the hairs on your arm jump off under minimal effort.
