WWII P-40 Fighter Plane Found In Sahara Desert
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/avia...he-Sahara.html
Heres the link to the story and more pictures. This story reminds me of the B-24 crew that bailed out over the North Africa desert and the plane was found largely intact.I love history and aviation so thought I'd share this story if you havn't seen it yet. http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/1...k12215708b.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us |

It is amazing how that dry, hot desert keeps all those basically metal items in such relatively good shape. Kind of like finding a modern day dinosaur with the skin still on.
Sand storms can cover and uncover items for decades....or longer. Kind of exciting. |
How cool is that! I bet the M2 machine guns are still fully functional.
Reminds me of the P-38F Lightning known as "Glacier Girl" located under a hundred feet of snow in Greeland back in 2006. Its 20mm Oerlikon also fully functional: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-p8h4...=youtube_gdata |

I'd almost bet that this plane could be restored to fully operational!
