Winchester Model 61 Scope Holes?

I have a Winchester Model 61 rifle with two holes drilled on the top, does anyone have an idea what they were for?

the price is from 1968 these go for 200-300 to collectors

but you can buy VG modern ones for $50 or so

Greg, according to Madis the screws were there until 1943, then after that on special order only after serial number 59,000 or there about.

So where can I find a modern tang sight that will fit on the model 61 winchester?
