J. Stevens Model 83
I was just given this rifle and would like to know it's approx age & value.
On the barrel it says: SPRINGFIELD; J. Stevens Arms Company; Chicopee Falls, Mass, USA. Model 83; .22 short, long, long rifle. It's a single shot, bolt action. I can not find a serial #. There is a "D" stamped on the barrel to the left of the rear sight. The condition is fair to poor. The stock is in good shape but the finish is bad. Some tarnish on the barrel. One other thing: on the bottom of the pistol grip is a round piece of metal (25 cent size) with an elk head and the name H. Cranmer embossed on it. It looks to me that it's the name of a former owner. I looked in the "Blue Book" under Springfield and J. Stevens and could not find a Model 83. Any help would be appreciated. |
Re: J. Stevens Model 83
Serial numbers were not required or commonly used on on single shot rim-fire rifles when this gun was made.
Its value will likely be under $50.00 as you describe it. |
Re: J. Stevens Model 83
Model 83 was made from 1934-38. I have one that my dad received when he was 8 years old in 1935. I am in need of a bolt for my Model 83, if anyone has one.
