winchester model 74 part

After cleaning my model 74 I found a spring on the floor approximately 1/4" X 3/4". I have no idea where this spring came from. Is it part of the model 74.

I don't have one of those guns, but on a parts diagram the only spring that looks like that is the "magazine lifting spring" which fits back at the buttplate. It seems to put forward tension on the outer magazine tube, pushing on the magazine sleeve nut.

I found a hole in the stock near the end of the magazine tube where the "magazine lifting spring" fits nicely. I feel confident the fix has been identified. I won't be able to test it immediately. Thanks for the input and help.
