Eeeewww! Liver!
:eek:I don't care if it is deer, elk or beef liver . . . everyone that hates liver, likes this recipe my ma came up with.
First of all you put the cleaned/sliced liver in a pan of cold water and just bring to a boil. Shut off the fire. NOW LOOK AT THE WATER! Wouldn't you call that gross? Eeeewwww! Remove the liver by lifting it out of the yucky water with a fork or tongs . Do NOT pour the water off. Looking at the water, if you hadn't done this first step, you would have been eating all this crap you see in the water. You can go throw the water in the garden or let the dog drink it.:bleh: OK! Now roll your liver in flour, salt and pepper and place in large cast iron skillet preheated with small amount of oil. Add peeled cut into wedges potatoes, large sliced onion or two, add a cup or two of catsup and enough water to cover. Place lid on skillet and simmer for 2 to 2 1/2 hrs or so. Just keep checking to make sure you don't run out of liquid. This is a very good nutricious meal served with your favorite veggie and dinner roll. |
Re: Eeeewww! Liver!
I love liver. Don't care how its cooked. Drege it in floor and fry it, grill it, boiled (not as good but still edible). Best is making liver gravy from the pan fry dripping. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Re: Eeeewww! Liver!
We were out to eat with our neighbors the other day, discussing food, neighbor lady said she didn't like liver.
I asked when did you eat it last? She said about 30 years ago. I kind of talked her into trying it again sometime. Well I said I love good liver done right! And it can be done many ways, grandma fried it with onions, butter and whatever in her cast iron skillet, mom used a pressure cooker, wife has her own recipes. Just give me liver with onions, the gravy poured over mashed potatoes and maybe lima beans. Mmmmmm. Looks like it's recipe time....but liver is pretty easy however you do it! ;) |
Re: Eeeewww! Liver!
I love liver if you fix it and I don't have to. Way back when I had to slice up several beef livers and that just turned me off on the prep work but I still like it if I don't have to fix it.

Maybe you can make a deal you'll whip up a big bunch of mashed potatoes for everyone.....then get a small skillet and cook up your liver and onions? Might get a few converts if they try it your way. :) |
Re: Eeeewww! Liver!
used to eat the liver and loved some liver and onions but I give it away now to a buddy who likes it more than I do. After anatomy and physiology, kinda lost my desire to eat liver!
the heart is the most delicious part I think; slice it, lightly flour and pan fry = delicious! liver = give to friend I guess I still do eat some liver, scrapple usually has liver in it. I'll bet the OP's recipe makes it pretty tasty though, sure sounds good. |

Re: Eeeewww! Liver!
The wife, and I both love liver! Once we were at a Sea Food Restaurant in Clear Water Beach, FL for a wedding anniversary. Open air table on the beach, sun going down on the horizon, real romantic, and the wife orders liver!

Or liver with fava beans and a fine chinati wine? |
Re: Eeeewww! Liver!
heart and skeletal muscle does it for me!
I wouldn't turn down liver or kidney or whatever else if that's what dinner was, just not my first choice. In a survival situation I won't mind eating any part of the animal that doesn't have poo on it, hahaa! How 'bouts raccoon meat? It's quite delicious, if you've never tried, I highly recommend! I do remember when I was 6 years old, I lived with one of my aunts for almost a year and she owned a restaurant; when I first moved in, I ordered liver and onions every single night until about a week or so went by and my mom and aunt cut me off... |
