Remington 514 BC .22 short, long or long rifle
I picked this 1964 model Rem 514 Boy's Carbine up at a recent gun show. Immaculate shape and is a tack driver. Single shot bolt. It is my 10 year old daughters first rifle and she has learned to shoot it well. She reminds me that it is a youth carbine, not a boy's carbine. This is the same model I learned to shoot with in 1968. Great first rifle for a kid!

My dad has 4 boys rifles. They are great for the kiddos.

When I was 10 y.o. my Dad gave me a similar item an old Remington 512 .22 rifle as my first real firearm. It was in "like new" condition and still is today. It has given me endless amounts of enjoyment and is still one of my most cherished possesions. I am sure your daughter will feel the same way. :)

Re: Remington 514 BC .22 short, long or long rifle
Remington 514 was my first rifle as well. My Dad gave it to me for my 7th birthday in 1961. Mine has the regular sized stock, and like the OP said, a tack driver. I always new that my Remington was "better" than my brothers Winchester 67 because he had to pull a knob on the end of the bolt to cock his instead of mine cocking when I opened the bolt, like Dad's rifles.
