Re: My 1st reloads
Nothing is as satisfying as seating the bullets; mission complete! ready to go. Brass prep is my least favorite... I like throwing powder though too.
happy reloadin'! |

Jack I have to thank you agian fer helpin me get started with the readin material and the kit.
aa I didn't mind the case prep but I don't have but 25 useable cases. jlloyd thats my plan I will have a range report fer ya as soon as I sight her back in, my dad borrowed her and I can't hit now. Went to fire one off yesterday fergot the safety was on and thought I'd really messed up. Got a good laugh once I figured it out. |
Re: My 1st reloads
Welcome to the second addiction here. The first is TFF itself; the second is reloading. Shooting is not an addiction; it's a necessity like breathing. :)

Re: My 1st reloads
Finnally a range report--sorta. On Friday I took what I had left after sightin in and went to the police range. 150gr Seirra pushed by 30.5 gr IMR4320. At the range found a half gal milk jug and tossed it on the berm. At 50 yrds 7 were direct hits and the other 5 threw it into the air. All without any coolin time just bam bam bam kind of shootin. Came home and had 1 at previous load 2 at 31.5 and 2 at 32.5(max-Lee)4 of five hit with a 4 in group(kill zone) and I don't know how far off the 5th was it wasn't on the pan6". Then loaded back up at 31.5 and we shot all but one complete load. My SIL wanted to shoot the ol Marlin so thats what we used(all I had). One thing bout the 4320 it don't kick, it kinda pushes. Now to reload the empties:D.

Re: My 1st reloads
Thanks for the report. It is fun, gratifying, to see those cartridges you made go bang and the target turn into a sieve.

Re: My 1st reloads
Better late than never, I know how it goes sometimes. I'm just itching to get back out to the range.
Hope you put some of those reloads on some deer soon !! |
Re: My 1st reloads

Re: My 1st reloads
Just be careful of how many times you reload those cases. Case head separation is a major pain.
It's caused by more head space found in most lever action rifles. The base of the case get's stretched a bit at each firing. If you're having to trim the cases after each reload, that's a sign your rifle may have a bit more head space. Either way, you can check for this condition with a paper clip. Just bend a small bit of the end 90º then scratch it along the inside of the empty case. You'll feel a valley forming just above the case head. If you feel this, crush that case. Welcome to the wonderful world of reloading.:D |
