Buying M1 Garand?

Does anyone know if CMP is the best place to buy one ? If so if you are close enough would you go to the retail store in Al or just order one mail order?
I need one to compleate my collection of us WW2 common arms

In my opinion, you are not going to find one cheaper or better than the CMP.

I've heard both sides of the store. Find some good stuff there by picking it over, and the stuff sent to the store is the bottom of the barrel - you get better by just ordering.

Never been to the store, myself, so don't know. Quite happy with the one they sent me, though.

They wouldnt have a very good reputation as the CIVILIAN MARKSMANSHIP PROGRAM if they sold in-accurate rifles. I bought a CMP Service Grade from George Moody here and it is as accurate as I can ask.

What is the CMP asking nowadays for a Garand?

A local shop here in Atlanta has a couple very, very nice guns in the $800 range and would be happy to ship to another FFL.

Bloody things are HEAVY unless you restock them in syn (I have no idea how well that works), I had the privlege to take care of 5 match grade M-1's when in the service. Nobody wanted to shoot them on the range so I fired all five and enjoyed that feel of the "kick" they gave---until the next day when my shoulder was sore as heck. I quess if you play you got to pay sometimes. hahah

Same thing here. Now to get one I'm going to have to spend a bunch more money!

CMP is the best place to buy a Garand, their customer service is quite well regarded and the pricing is fair. Look at your local gunshows and see the Garands offered at higher prices. When the CMP runs out the prices will only go up.
