H&R Sportsman 22lr age

Recently I received my fathers Sportsman 22lr. Would like to find age. guessing it is 1949. #29xx Any help would be appreciated . This was one of the first pistols I shot at the age of 5. I'm now 60. Thanks

All I can tell you is that it was made prior to 1940. That is the date H&R started using a letter prefix on their serial numbers. Unless of course it does have a prefix and you neglected to post it:)
