I came home from work the other day and my dad was in my basement reloading some 45acp's (he's old and he has key's to my house) they are Zero brand 230grn fmj 5.6grns W231 fed150 primers. now to the bad part he seated them a bit to far 1.230 I normally seat them at 1.260 or 1.270 for the same charge. do you think they will be ok? or do I get to spend the day pulling bullets.:(:(

The Lee manual has a min. oal of 1.190 for that load. They also have a max load of 5.1 grains.

I would go ahead and shoot those loads. The OAL might be a bit shorter than usual, but I can't see any real problem. Try a few and see what happens.

You don't seem to be worried about the powder charge, and I agree. Newer reloading manuals are often very conservative. Older manuals (Speer #12) give a maximum load of 6.2 grains of WW 231 with a 230 grain FMJ bullet.

military ball is 5.4grns to 5.6grns of w231 or 4.8 to 5.0grns of bullseye at a C.O.L of 1.270 with a 230grn FMJ that has a bullet length of .660 to .656 as near as I can tell they maybe near +p but I'm not real sure. the Zero bullets length are .656 I'll try a few and see if there too hot or not. just thought maybe someone might have more info. thanks steve

That's a stiff load for sure , that's the same charge I put under a 185 Gr. HP . Which is supposed to be a +P load .

JLA, do you think they will be to hot? I'll bump them if you think so, but I was going to try one or two in my XDM. I don't think it will hurt that thing.

Not dangerously hot. But a little stouter than normal. I wouldnt run them with a recoil spring lighter than 18#. The XDM will be fine with them. any 1911 should be fine with them. Even at the current OAL.
