shotgun shell ejection problem
 

I have westernfeild m550abd that i know is compatable with all mossberg500 parts because there are a few on it. anyways it wont eject the emty shell usually second shot. wondering where i should start to trouble shoot. any replys are well appretiated. thanks

Either loose or broken ejector plate or missing/broken extractor claw.. The mossberg bolt has 2 claws so it would likely be the one on the ejector plate side. Other than that, ensure youre using the proper length shells, i.e. nothing longer than 3" and also that youre cycling the action with enough authority for the ejector to kick the shells free of the action.

The westernfeild is a Mossberg 500 all parts are the same.
More explanation is needed.
Is it extracting the shell?
Does it eject the first shell all the time?
Give us some more details.

Sorry im still new to this. i just saw shot guns and posted. but no some times it will keep the first shell

its very unpredictable but id say it wont do more than two or three shots some times. others it starts from the first shell. just using federal target load in 23/4

You need the old model Mossberg parts for a westernfield. Nuumrich has a schematic for and old model 500A. Broken gun parts can be hard to spot without a new part to compare. I would use fine steel wool wrapped around a wood dowel or a worn out bore cleaning brush to polish the chamber. This will get any plastic out that might be stuck in the chamber. If the steel wool doesn't cure your problem. I would order both extractors and springs.

You will need a small punch. a vise and a dead blow hammer makes the job much easier. If you need rubber pads for your vise visit any nice stable in your area. The rubber mats horse trainers place in the horses stalls work very well. They wear out pretty fast in a stable. Most barns have a few scraps laying around. A plywood blade in a skillsaw makes short work of cutting thick rubber mats.

If it is not extracting(pulling the empty shell out of the chamber) then the extractors(this is on the bolt)(there are 2 of them) are worn out.
If it is not ejecting (tossing the empty out) then the ejector is worn out(This is on the inside of the receiver on the left side).
All 3 are fairly cheep so I would replace all .
There is 2 extractors on the bolt the left and right replace both(they work together to extract and hold the spent shell in till it hits the ejector.
Do not use steel wool on your chamber polishing a chamber is a gunsmith job.A bore brush for cleaning is all you need to clean the barrel and chamber.
The ejector is held on with a screw but the extractors are held on the bolt with pins.
If you are not familiar with doing work like this take it to a gunsmith.
Replace the extractor springs and pins when you are at it.

Must agree with mike. I get alot of guns in for repair that were attacked by weekend gunsmiths that end up way over thier heads.
