who knows remington date codes?
I am having trouble deciphering serial # and barrel codes.

I can see your problem. D is September, but there is no XM. X is 1929, 1973 or 2003. M is 1921, 1965 or 1992. There are some double -letter codes, but they are all the same letter - MM, NN, RR, XX, etc. The only thing that makes sense is that you have mis-read the code.
How about a picture of it? Maybe we can do better. |

For shotguns with removeable barrels, the code will be valid for the manufacture of the barrel; maybe for the receiver, as barrels do get switched around. Gunhugger, you got a typo in 1943. You got MMZ. Should just be MM.

I have a 552 that the barrel code makes no sense at all. Try this it's very quick and easy.
OK, for those of you who get tired of the same old "BLACKPOWDERX" answer....Not all Remington Firearms use the "Barrel Code" for serial number location. REMINGTON (www.remington.com) Customer Service (1-800-243-9700 & follow the prompts) will look up your serial number and verify the age of your firearm. They are VERY helpful and courteous. It took less than a minute to look up my 1973 Model 552. |
