Bob Costas and NBC sports
Was just watching the Sunday night football game on NBC and at halftime Bob Costas went on a rant on the shooting death of the KC football player that killed his girlfriend then drove to the stadium and shot himself in front of his coach and others.
He went on to blame handgun ownership and it's all our fault for having handguns , and it would not have happened if Jovan Belcher had not owned a handgun. ...... Really ? Mr Costas you know that for a fact ? Your an idiot. Mr Belcher would have found a way, he was a MURDERER plain and simple . His wife was a victim PERIOD . I will no longer watch you on tv , or have anything to do with your employer or it's affiliates or network . Just because your a sportscaster does not give you a stage for gun control , or your pathetic opinions . |
OMG I am having a minor stroke.
Holy Jumpin Jesus…..
So I’m relaxing in my living room watching football. The Eagles are ahead of Dallas which I find interesting. The halftime comes and I watch a bit of Walking Dead, and although I enjoy watching Zombies being shot, they have added too much drama. So I switch back to the half time show in time to listen to some dork telling me it was the hand gun's fault that the Chief’s player killed his girlfriend and how we would all be safer without guns, and how “his girlfriend and he” would still be alive if we didn’t have guns. My first impulse is to run around yelling and kicking things, yelling to explain that before guns they used knives and swords, bows and arrows, fire (where they usually kill the intended and everyone else in the apartment building), rope, rocks, slings, snakes, and in one James Bond movie, gold paint, not to mention cars, trucks, trains (tied up on the tracks), and airplanes (9-11). Never in my life have I ever encountered more stupid people than I encounter in my daily travels. So, instead of continuing a full blown rant, let ask my friend in the firearms forum their suggestion. Should I write to NBC? Should I just shut up and have an adult beverage? Should I continue to stockpile supplies? My wife tells me I can’t fix stupid. My mind tells me to ignore what I can’t control. My instinct tells me to keep my powder dry and take cover. I am starting to hope the Mayans were right. What say ye? |

Re: OMG I am having a minor stroke.
Yes I think all of us should . Bob Costas is an idiot , he was linking a story from another writer in Kansas City who is an obvious gun hater . I will no longer frequent NBC or the company's who advertise with them . I have it on video if anyone wants it. I can email it to you. Just pm me .

Re: OMG I am having a minor stroke.
Just keep doing what you're doing. Your wife is right, stupid cannot be fixed, not easily anyway. Writing a letter may releive some frustration. Good luck.

Put your views on paper, put it in an envelope and mail it to him.

Re: OMG I am having a minor stroke.
I always think of the following, written ages ago...
"False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils, except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm those only who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Can it be supposed that those who have the courage to violate the most sacred laws of humanity, the most important of the code, will respect the less important and arbitrary ones, which can be violated with ease and impunity, and which, if strictly obeyed, would subject innocent person to all the vexations that the guilty alone ought to suffer? Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for the unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. They ought to be designated as laws not preventative but fearful of crimes, produced by the tumultuous impression of a few isolated facts, and not by thoughtful consideration of the inconveniences and advantages of a universal decree." --Cesare Beccaria, On Crimes and Punishments --Quoted in full by Thomas Jefferson, Commonplace Book 314 |

Re: OMG I am having a minor stroke.
Emotional desire, evil intent and just plain stupid is what kills people. The means is the end, and it can be anything, even a coffee cup.
Irrational fear permeates society. Entire school lock-downs have been initiated by a student bringing a single bullet he found to the teacher - no gun involved. |
Re: Bob Costas and NBC sports
To Bob Costas and NBC:
"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks." - Thomas Jefferson |
Re: OMG I am having a minor stroke.
Yes yes, by all means contact NBC. In fact, we should all contact them about our displeasure. It worked for my wife and friends of hers and any other celiac that watched.
They had a "specialist" on that was clearly giving the wrong advise for the condition she was discussing. My wife and others contacted NBC and within a week NBC had someone else on correcting the statements made. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Sitting back and doing nothing, results in nothing. |
Re: OMG I am having a minor stroke.
The real reason for that senseless act of violence is football. Football and steroids. Tell NBC that. It makes as much sense as blaming guns.

Re: OMG I am having a minor stroke.
I have always admired Bob Costas but he overstepped on this issue. What did it have to do with sports?

Costas is a tool, put on the ignore list

Re: OMG I am having a minor stroke.
Did anyone read the original article that Costas was referencing?
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/j...-sunday-120112 Here is the part that I found particularly interesting: Quote:
But we also need to examine the idea of how to protect ourselves from a government equipped with stealth bombers, predator drones, tanks, and nuclear weapons. More than six times as many people were killed by governments in the 20th Century than in all the wars combined. Only fools would pretend it couldn't happen to us. Our government isn't close to it. But most governments weren't close to it until all of the sudden they were. |

Re: Bob Costas and NBC sports
sweet idea, I'm gonna send him my English paper on why banning guns is the most retarded idea!
I have the latest corrected version posted on the original thread still. Hopefully he reads it and has a heart attack to spare us an idiot who thinks guns are the cause of death and violence. OK, maybe that was a little much... I hope he craps himself, hows that? |
Re: Bob Costas and NBC sports
@ATHudd: If someone was beat to death with the 2700 page Affordable Healthcare Act (Obamacare), would Bob Costas want it outlawed?

Re: Bob Costas and NBC sports
Jim Gray from FOX News agrees with Costas. These guys are two of the BIGGEST BOOBS not in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition!!!

Re: Bob Costas and NBC sports
Just emailed this to the same place KA sent his:
Hello, I'm sure we are all well aware of the extremely controversal statement paraphrased by Bob Costas recently about firearms in the wake of a tragedy involving a football player. I am writing to share my thoughts on why gun control does not work and that his belief that the gun was the only reason there were deaths is completely asinine. I'm sure a huge muscular football player was completely incapable of causing death by any other means than a firearm... come on! OJ Simpson stabbed someone to death- he was a famous football player, shouldn't we have banned knives? That's exactly the same logic, no matter how you want to spin it. Attached, please find my thoughts (this was actually an English assignment that I wrote recently, it is clean with no vulgar material). I hope to see a retraction of the anti-gun statement and would dearly love if anyone who makes comments like that be banned from broadcasting on your network. Thank you for your time, AA I stole the OJ comment, pretty funny; especially since he's 'innocent' hope someone actually reads it as well as the 11 page paper |
