Colt Cadet .22
 

hi, new member here .. Wondering what others think of the early 90's Colt cadet .22 pistol? I have one and its a dream to shoot and is extremely accurate and reliable as well a joy to break down. My Father in law has a Ruger Mark 2 .22 pistol and he has nothing but problems with jams. he has had it to a KNOWN Ruger pistolsmith in NJ and he made some changes but still same thing. He hates it. Its also a horror to break down completely to clean.. He loves my Colt tho:) Anyone else have one of these jewels?

Welcome to TFF FlyinGN! I picked this one up at auction awhile back. It's not named "Cadet" just Colt 22 (based off the squabble after Colt manufacturing took over). I never got to shoot it though. Soon as it came in someone wanted to trade something for it, and I was obliged to do so. It was a nice looking/feeling pistol...;)

the early advertizing for this pistol used the name 'colt cadet' but i don't know if any were actually marked with that name. at the time the owners of iver johnson arms inc. claimed they owned the name, their last usage of the name cadet was in 1978.

what ever name you call it this colt pistol is a modernized version of the high standard duramatic last produced by high standard about 1985. the duramatic design is simply and strong. the lack of adjustable sights and the very heavy stricker kept it from being used in formal target matches but it was an excellent plinker.

Its true. I just used cadet because if I just said "Colt .22" everyone would say "which one!??'

I do have magazine articles of the gun where they caled it the Cadet.

Okay. I shhot mostly indoors. At ranges.. Ill take the Colt next time and post a pic of a target..:)

We don't have any indoor ranges close by here, it would be nice though. Weather permitting I'll get some targets posted up soon also...;)

:) I have one of these Colt 22's. I saw it advertised in a gun mag in 1994 and went and ordered it. I still have it in the original case. Very nice target pistol.

Great little gun but the poorly designed magazine release really precludes it from being used in the field.

Had one marked Cadet that I sold a couple of years ago. Pistol pointed well even though I don't ever remember shooting it.

Love the pistol!!

I had one and even bought another! On the second one I had a pistol scope put on it. Wow! That little baby is REALLY accurate now!

I like the pistol. So why did Colt quit making them? It seems to me that they did not market them well at all. Closest one to it is the Beretta Neos. VERY similar.

Have one of these, purchased in a weak moment on a snowy day a couple of years ago. Shot it enough to make sure it works Ok, then into the safe it went. Haven't shot it all that much since; I like my High Standard's too well. Held on to it, thinking I might use it for trade fodder some day. Only complaint is the mag release and the plastick :eek: feel. Shoots ok.
I have an older Ruger MK II; maybe I'm lucky (it'd be the first time!) but I haven't had any of the problems mentioned.

I just had two colt cadets givin to me. They both say cadet on them one is a 4.5" and the other is a 6". The 6" has never been fired the other about 50 rounds. They both have the same SN 155 of 200 ever made. They were sued by cooey for TM infringment. They were made in '94 & '95. Both have case and card board box aswell.

I've had mine for about 11 years and love it. My wife loves shooting it as well. When I was single, I would take friends to an indoor range. Since many of them never shot a gun before, I would always start them off with the Colt so that they could get used to the noise, recoil and to build their confidence. Then we would move up to the Beretta 9mm and then finally to the H&K USP 40 S&W.

The only complaint I have with the Colt is that I seem to have a problem with the slide staying "open" after shooting the last round. It doesn't happen all the time but more times than I would like. It was really bad in the begining (70%) and I wrote to Colt about it and they sent me two new clips. It helped a lot but it still happens occasionally (10%).

Despite this, I still love it.

Is the 6" one stainless? If so, are you will to sell it. Let me know how much you want for it. I live in Connecticut.

I own one of these little .22s in the stainless long barrel. LOVE IT!!!! i have taught several girlfriends, then my wife, and two of my step kids with it. what a great piece of hardware. it is not a wepon usually seen at the ranges i go to, and when one of those high end target shooters shows up, you know the ones, they have the three thousand dollar gun and not enough brains to "perfect practice" to be good with it. i shoot right with them for scores, sometimes a lot better, then i tell them i got it at K-Mart and what i payed for it... Grand justice!

I've got one of these also. Ordered it when they started to hit the magazines hard in 1994 or so. 4 inch bbl. I later found a new 6 inch bbl for sale and bought that too. Nice to have the two barrels.

I understand the magazines are interchangeable with the Berretta Neos. I read they are, haven't tried it.

I love my Colt .22

It's a fantastic variant of the High Standard Duramatic design.

I think it's the only gun I ever bought without actually researching. I happened to find one at a gun show and the "Nintendo Zapper" styling struck me off guard and I couldn't resist.

Turns out, my gut was right, the price was right, and the pistol was flawless. I wound up buying a 6" target model two years later for an even better deal.

Although some cite the trigger-guard magazine release as a design flaw, this is a .22 range pistol, not a CCW carry gun. I say the design is just right for putting holes in paper targets.

I'd love to find another one to add to the collection. If I don't, there's another Duramatic variant i'd love to try out, the Beretta Neos. Or possibly, the Holy Grail of .22's, a REAL High Standard.
