What are the markings on the left side of the barrel, and on the top of the barrel? Also, what markings are on the underside of the grip (turn the gun upside down)? If this is a revolver, tell everything it says on the top of the barrel, in exactly the order it says it. Then do the same with the left side of the gun. If it's an auto, tell everything it says on the left side of the slide, in exactly the order it says it. Could the patent date be 1850 rather than 1950? I'm getting the feeling that this might be a reproduction of an 1851 Navy. Or possibly even an original? But that May 1943 sure doesn't compute! Hanging back for more inf or pictures. Sounds like an Italian replica of one of the Army models (probabaly 1860). The 1860 Army didn't have a cylinder with a scrolled Navy scene, did it? AntiqueDr *TFF Senior Staff* Posts: 2037 (2/15/02 2:47:04 pm) Reply | Edit | Del ezSupporter Re: can someone shed some light -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes, the 1860 Army had the same cylinder scene as the 1851 Navy. The reason I am leaning toward the Army is that all the Navy guns were .36 cal. If it is in fact an Italian repro, value ranges depending on the actual manufacturer and overall quality. Some were imported assembled and finished, some were finished in the states, and some were imported in complete kit form for the retail customer to finish. Value from a low of about $75 if functional, to maybe $300 for a really quality piece.
