Mossberg .22s Anyone?

Member Posts: 18 (9/27/01 12:53:29 pm) Reply Mossberg .22s Anyone? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As I've mentioned before, I have a small but growing contingent of older Mossberg .22 rifles, with an emphasis on the bolt actions. It all started with one of the CMP Mossberg M44US rifles and grew from there. I currently have 5 or 6 different models, ranging from your generic semi-auto Mossbergs (what is it? The 151K?), to some of the mannlicher stocked bolt action models and a like NIB Model 352K-C that was my uncle-in-law's gun (the kind with the fold-down foreend). Would love to get my hands on at least three particular models - any of the "T" bolt handle bolt actions, a British Lend-Lease Model 42MB, and the elusive Model L - in profile it looks like a lever action, bit it is actually a Martini-type falling block action. Vic Havlin of the NMCA had one for sale not long ago, but I didn't have the funds at the time. Basically, what it comes down to is that if anyone has any Mossberg .22 rifles gathering dust, I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands. Just keep me informed. I'll have to post some pics of that one soon....8-) That's the one good thing about Mossbergs - with the exception of a few models, they haven't achieved stratospheric prices yet.... Thanks in advance Jay625 Member Posts: 12 (3/21/02 5:16:55 pm) Reply Fell into a great deal on an S-130 peep sight today !! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just fell into one... I was in Indianapolis today and went into a pawn shop to kill a few minutes, and the owner was fiddleing with a Model 45. The rifle was rusted bad and he couldn't figure out how to make the S-130 peep sight swing around past the rusted scope that had been mounted on the rifle. I told him he would have to take off the scope to use the sight. His opinion was the scope would help sell the rifle faster so he asked me if I wanted the sight for $5. I shrugged and said I could probably find a use for it. Now, just the front and barrel sights, and I'll have two complete ones. Jay625 Member Posts: 13 (3/21/02 5:54:43 pm) Reply Speaking of Mossberg peep sights.... !! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Those steel balls are .0935" in diameter. I just happen to have some extras. I can't contribute a whole lot of knowledge to this forum, but I've gained several books full. In attempting to return the favors, I have enough of those steel balls to give eight of them away. The first eight people who send me their mailing address get'em. One each, and the first eight by time and date of the e-mail. I'm not in business, and no scam, spam, or like that. It's just silly to have to obtain a new sight for want of those bearings. jayb@swayzee.com Regards, Jay |

Re: Mossberg .22s Anyone?
Looking for more of Mossberg's FIRST gun, the Brownie. There are three known Variations, those I've got, but there could always be a FOURTH Variation show up. Maybe you've got that very gun stashed away somewhere?
UPDATE! PLEASE NOTE: That elusive FOURTH Variation has been discovered and was named Variation #2.5, because its newly noted differences fall between the Variation #2 and Variation #3. It was only discovered very late in 2009. The easiest way to learn if you have one is to make sure the patent info on the right side is dated July 27 1920; and that there is NO alignment pin in the top center of the right sideplate; and NO serial number on bottom of the butt. Also will buy any Brownie marked PAT'D. JAN. 27, 1920 on right side of barrels - IF the price is reasonable. And, I'm always looking for any Brownie items like vintage ads (photo below), original boxes, original Instruction Manuals, etc.. I've had my Mossberg 142-A since 1953 bought it new with a peep sight and scope on it for like $25.00, with adjustible trigger spring tension. She out shot many other 22s along the years and still can,not saying I am still capable but the rifle still is.

Welcome to TFF, 1badshot!
You'll probably get a better answer by posting your question as a new thread in the "Ask the Pros and What's It Worth" forum. Be sure to give as complete a description of the gun as possible. Pictures always help, too. |

I just inheirted a Mossberg 146B. Could use some advice on how to break it down. Do you unscrew the screw on the right side of the bolt?

Re: Mossberg .22s Anyone?
Hey Everybody. I just joined today but am glad to be amoung small bore rifle enthusiasists. Recently I purchased a replacement clip for my 640KA chuckster. Of course it required grinding down of the magazine guide post. When I took the screw out that holds post to the bottom of the bolt or action, What looked like a bottom piece of the bolt with a hole for the screw i just removed, fell out and landed on the floor. I am not a gun smith/mechanic by any means. I did not remove the bolt but managed to slide the piece that fell out back into place and replaced the modified guide post. After oiling and replacing the stock the bolt action seams to function the same as before. I have not fired the gun since. Can anyone advise me on whether what I encountered is normal or a sign of a malfunction. I am driving through lower MI on the 16th and may try to stop in to the Cabelas in Dundee and have someone look at it and repare if necessary. Just thought I would check with the real experts first.
Thanks for any comments. Cheers |
Re: Mossberg .22s Anyone?
Love my 46Mb. I shot my marlin 39a, remington 710 7mm and my rock river arms lar15 along with the mossberg. I must say the mossberg was my favorite one to shoot. It would put all 15 rounds in a 4 inch area at 50 yards. What a fun gun to shoot. I would buy another one in a heat beat.
