Xracers Obituary

I just got this in an email from Carol:

Jim Baumann, 73

Jim C. Baumann passed away after a long, brave battle with colon cancer on March 30, 2009 at Lake Ridge Care Home in Buffalo. He was 73 years old.

Jim was born July 22, 1935, at Brewer, Maine, to Norman and Doris Baumann.

He attended school at East Hartford High School in East Hartford, CT graduating in 1953.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1959 and was stationed on the USS Nipmuc ATF157 out of Newport, Rhode Island. He also served on the New York City Police Department. His interests were in guns and photography.

On November 27, 1982, he married Carol Ann Korb (Turner). They lived in the east coast area for six years before moving to Minnesota.

Jim worked for Medtronic, Inc in the Brady Leads department developing heart valves and was instrumental in the introduction of these valves in Canada.

Jim loved fishing, sports, photography, and was a gun enthusiast. He was a huge animal-lover, opening their home to many pets over the years. He also loved NASCAR racing and participated in racing events in his younger years.

In 1999, Jim and Carol made a trip to Canada to fulfill one of Jim's life-long dreams; the purchase of “Dudley Do-Right,” a 1972 Mini-Cooper car and it immediately became a prominent member of the Baumann family. Dudley survives. Jim was a co-founder of the "MMPEAPSHA" (Mini-Sota Minis Pizza Eating and Psychiatric Self-Help Association) mini classic car club of Minnesota.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Neal and Doris Baumann, sister, Janice Baumann and stepdaughter, Tamara Turner.

Survivors include Jim's wife, Carol, of the home; son, Sherman and Michelle of Moodus, CT, son, Eric of Ellington, CT, stepson, Robert Turner of Corpus Christi, TX, two grandsons, and one great-grandson,

Cremation was preformed by the Cremation Society of Minnesota. Family and friends will hold a memorial gathering at a later date.

Of all the souls that in her sailed
Let not one life in thee have failed;
But hear from heaven our sailor's cry,
And grant eternal life on high!

Thank you for that, sounds one of the good guys to me. His choice of car speaks volumes.

I know he will be missed, as the good ones always will be.

Home is the sailor, home from the sea
and the hunter home from the hill;
Glad did he live and glad did he die
and he laid him down with a will.
Fare Thee Well, Xracer
