Eddystone Barrel Markings

Have a Eddystone M1917 but the barrel has the markings of H S and the flaming bomb no date markings. Is the H S a barrel mfg.? Why no date?

Thanks

I assumed the "E" on mine stood for "Eddystone."

I have the "E", then the flaming bomb, and the date, 9 - 18. My serial number is 1,06x,xxx; maybe yours was before or after they marked it the way mine is marked. Or maybe a replacement barrel.

Re: Eddystone Barrel Markings

High Standard, well known for its sporting guns, made M1917 replacement barrels during WWII. The Model 1917 was never used in combat in WWII, but thousands were issued stateside for training, guard duty, and the like.

Thanks for the info. I wondered about the HS being High Standard.
