How do you carry at the range
I've done a little research on the site, and can't find much on how most people carry at the range. I know if I had a modern pistol instead of a BP, I could use a holster without anyone wondering where my horse is tied up. Do you use a holster once you get there, or do you use a case?

Re: How do you carry at the range
i've never shot at an actual range. at my personal range i normally shoot out of cases. since i normally have my carry gun on my belt. although sometimes if i plan to do a lot of work with one particular gun i'll wear that one

Re: How do you carry at the range
Our range is open range. We have targets set up out to 2,000 yards. This is just open country {BLM Range}. We have no rules just have fun.

Re: How do you carry at the range
I don't "carry" at the range.
They are either cased; laying on the bench; or I'm shooting. |
Re: How do you carry at the range
That makes sense. I'd love to have a holster for it, but if its just going to hang on the wall, and I'm not going to actually wear it...I'd rather not spend the money on it.
Thanks guys! |
Re: How do you carry at the range
I won't go to a range that prohibits open or concealed carry. Too many cases of folks being murdered, and having their guns stolen at some secluded range. I carry at both ranges I shoot at, and I never shoot my carry gun on any given trip. If I want to shoot gun "A", then I carry gun "B".

Re: How do you carry at the range
First... Semper Fi :-)
Second I only have the one gun, and am very much the novice. Eventually I could like to get my conceal and carry lisc, but until then I will be more than satisfied with my BP. I just like the holster, and the kid in me wants to wear a pistol on my hip....I just dont want to be the only one doing it. :-D |

Re: How do you carry at the range
is it uncommon for a range to allow/encourage you to carry while you shoot?

Re: How do you carry at the range
Ya know, I get a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing nobody has a gun within arms reach when I'm downrange changing targets. I don't know you, so why should I trust you to not handle a gun while the range is "safe"
Likewise, you don't know me and if you trust me to follow all the rules, you're a fool. |
Re: How do you carry at the range
So if the holsters are not for the range, when would you wear a holster (BP)? Maybe a Civil War reinactment? I can't image that many people are strolling around with them on their hips in every day life.

Re: How do you carry at the range
At the range I bring several firearms at a time two hand guns and a rifle or two, we shoot out of the cases never holster and when going down range the firearms are on the bench sometimes I take the clips and sometimes not, the range is very small typically there is no one else shooting, occasionally one other shooter we always go down range at the same time.

Re: How do you carry at the range
Like some others here I shoot at my own personal range. When I do go to a range, I'm very carefull about going down range. I have only shot at one range that had a range guard, someone who would control the range for the club. That works for me. At home, I just take what I need to the table, which is only about 75 feet form the front door. On a range my guns are all in a case of some sort, if nothing other than a rug. They stay there untill it's their turn!

Re: How do you carry at the range
Cool. So it sounds like a case is the way to go then.
Where would the typical BP shooter use a holster if not at the range? |
Re: How do you carry at the range
i carry concealed at the range.
always want a fire arm near especially driving to & from. there have been incidents of folks getting jacked after buying a new gun, being followed home & robbed of gun & anything else. we live in a sick society & being vigilant is just being responsible. S.M. |
Re: How do you carry at the range
All the holsters that I use can be used cross draw. I find cross draw more convenient when horseback. Since I ride either a horse or ATV to where I shoot, cross draw just works for me. I do have holsters for every gun in the safe. But since I make my own holsters, and there isn't much else to do here in the winter (blizzard conditions here last two days) well, you get the idea.

Re: How do you carry at the range
When I was actively going to the range I would carry everything that I would need in a couple of large Midwest Supply range bags. Handguns, mags, ammo, staplers, rags, take down equipment, sqib remover, hand cleaner, hand warmers, etc.
Targets went in a tube. |

Actually, I like what shoots:)

Re: How do you carry at the range
My favorite Remington is the Uberti .36, mainly because of the shorter barrel.
I've got a Colt 1851 which was converted to .38 S&W back in the '80s..... I'd like to fit it with a short barrel. |
Re: How do you carry at the range
Depends on what my carry gun is that day. 44 mag goes in an open holster worn cross draw on my left side or my 45 is in an old military field holster with the flap on the right side. Anything else is kept in the gun box or on the bench unless I'm shooting it.
