Marlin model 60 safety broken
The safety button on my 30 year old Marlin model 60 22 rifle falls out.
I took it apart and there appears to be a ball bearing in the mechanism that does not hold the button in place well. I called Marlin but their only suggestion was to buy an entire new Trigger guard. $35 Can't find an exploded parts view for the trigger guard. Does any one know what is suppose to be in there? Is it one ball bearing or possibly 2 on top of each other? If so where can I get another ball bearing? Thx |
Re: Marlin model 60 safety broken
The safety stays in the trigger guard, they are probably right, it would be worth the money to have it work and avoid the hassle of trying to jury rig a fix. It's pretty much of a factory assembly job from where I sit. My 60 is in pieces on my bench for cleaning and I wouldn't dream of messing with it. But then I'm not a gunsmith, just a shooter.

Re: Marlin model 60 safety broken
There is a small spring that's supposed to go on top of the ball, with a small cross pin to hold the spring in place. Look close, I bet you see a tiny hole at the top of the spring&ball shaft.

Re: Marlin model 60 safety broken
You are correct. Thanks. Looks like the spring is missing. Any idea where I can get a spring? Marlin has none. Just the whole assembly. Maybe a spring from my local nuts and bolts store. Any idea what it looks like?
Much appreciated. |

Re: Marlin model 60 safety broken
wouldn't it be better to get spring from marlin?
|
Re: Marlin model 60 safety broken
Marlin considers that trigger guard a factory assembly and does not sell separate parts. But the spring is easy to find at most hardware stores even if you have to buy an assortment to get the right one. Size is not particularly critical as long as the spring fits into the hole. Wolff does not list them in the catalog, though they do list coil spring assortments.

If you look real close, behind the trigger ,in the guard portion of your gun ,you will see the end of the pin. It goes thru the guard from one side to the other, just to hold the spring in. |

Re: Marlin model 60 safety broken
Sorry, I didn't find one that diameter, too big or too small. It does look like the ink pen size though doesn't it, if it's stif enough.
I second the motion on Wolff Gun Springs, I to am a big fan of their assortment packs. http://www.gunsprings.com/ |

Beth,
Absolutely right. I apologize. To be honest I've gotten so used to all of the quirky handles on these forums it didn't really occur to me that BETH might actually mean...Beth! As in a woman ... of the female persuasion. Doh! :o |
