Ron Paul Issues Statement on ATF Gun Scandal

http://www.businesswire.com/news/hom...TF-Gun-Scandal

LAKE JACKSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, 2012 GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul commented on the recent revelations about the federal government’s botched program to track gun sales. See statement below.

“The ATF has a long history of abusing our Second Amendment rights, so I was glad to see Congressman Issa demanding answers on the Project “Gunwalker”

“My hope is that the recent hearing will further expose the ATF's and Attorney General Eric Holder's assaults on law-abiding gun owners, and more people will start questioning the need for unconstitutional agencies like the ATF that exist solely to infringe on American citizens' God-given right to keep and bear arms.”

He may be right, but he has too long a standing among too many people as being the "conspiracy theory guy". Not only will he never win the presidency due to this, but his ideas get looked at as "from the crazy guy" and people pass him off. He needs to step aside and let a new face take over.

What's wrong with conspiracy theories?

I'm not saying the Moon Landing was fake.

But did you ever buy it that one man shot up JFK in Dallas that day, with that old bolt-action rifle, with a defective scope, with expert precision, with three shots which defied the laws of physics?

They found more bulletholes in the limo than three rounds could have created. The shot that killed Kennedy hit him from the front. There were a number of experts who cooberate that theory.

One of the Watergate burglars - Howard Hunt - said there was a gunman on the grassy knoll. That guy James Files said he was the shooter on the knoll.

Since then, I find it difficult to believe anything the government says is "right." I find it funny the government has two official positions on it. The Warren Commission conclusion and the HSCA conclusion.

Or what about Watergate? Or Iran-Contra? Sorry I find it difficult to blindly believe the government. I'm not a conspiracy nut. I'm just a guy who thinks for himself.

I agree with Ron Paul on this, Yeah he is a bit nutty and no I dont think he would win the presidency, but he is not stupid and lets face it, there are alot of conspiracies out there as illustrated above.
on this topic he is correct and I would like to see a slew of investigations on this. What they did was bsically comit a crime to show that crime can be commited. People died as a result. and they tried to cover it up. Sorry I want more than one @$$clown resigning.

??? Technically, Watergate isn't a conspiracy theory, nor was Iran-Contra.
Who doesn't know that LBJ had the Pres killed? ;)
Ron Paul would make a great Pres., but I live in the land of 'can do' reality, and he's not it.

in a bubble this is a good statement from Ron Paul, however he is regular nut job as evidenced by the bill he wants to introduce today that would decriminlize marijuana at the federal level... imo the guys wears a tin foil hat

He did. Read this.

As for Watergate, I don't think they ever found out what the burglars were really after. Watergate was related to Dallas as evidenced by "the whole Bay of Pigs thing" as stated by Nixon on the Watergate tapes. They say the same people who committed the break-in at the hotel were the same people who got Kennedy out of the way in Dallas.

As for Iran-Contra, they knew about the illegal arms sales and money to the Contras, but they never really discovered the illegal cocaine smuggling. A guy named Gary Webb has some great articles on it. He's dead though. Two gunshots to the head ruled as a 'suicide.'

Call me crazy, but I don't quite trust the government. They lie, cheat and steal and the people who question them or know too much seem to have accidents, die mysteriously, commit suicide or disappear.

I don't see why it shouldn't be. It's just a plant. Treat it like alcohol. If you do it behind the wheel of a car make it an automatic 10 years in prison.

I agree. I use plants for pleasure, they're called grapes, and many people make them into fine wines and enjoy then as I do, responsibly. Many more use wheat, and barley and corn and so on. I don't buy the bull that pot is a "gateway" drug, and cigerettes are FAR more lethal and they're legal.
Time to spend our law enforcement money better elsewhere, like on the border.

I think they should lock you up and throw away the key just for possession.

Well the trouble is that the penalties for abusing these things aren't strict enough. If you hand someone a ten year prison sentence for their first DUI, I think that would scare a lot of people out of doing it. Of course it wouldn't stop anybody... No law does. But it would prevent a lot of people from making that choice. I mean how would you or I feel if one of our relatives were killed by a drunk driver?

I think drunk drivers make up a lot of automobile deaths every year. Probably more than gun deaths even counting the illegal guns.

I respect your opinion, but the Constitution does say "right to life," therefore since marijuana can help cancer patients, I feel it should be legal in certain amounts. Otherwise you have that possibility that people will grow large amounts of it and create a black market.

I do think that if you smoke the stuff and go and kill someone while under the influence of it, yeah lock them up and throw away the key.

I think marijuana is stupid. I don't see why anybody would want to do it. But I really don't care what people do behind closed doors. Just like gays. I think it's gross, but what other people do in their own lives is their business.

I don't like other people telling me to live my life without guns, so I'm not going to tell other people how to live their lives.

I have been involved in local politics for years, but our federal government has become so corrupt I don't believe anything they say. The world is all about power and money and our federal government is no exception. There's elected officials who would sell us out for a buck and do on a regular basis. Many in our Country have lost their honesty, integrity, and ability to differentiate between right and wrong. I agree Paul is unelectable, but I agree with many of his basic principals as well, we just can't isolate ourselves from the world of today and survive. Lets all pray we get a new President in 2012 who has the guts and brains to ask God for His help and bring our great Nation back from the brink of distruction!

There's one reason why Ron Paul can't be elected president: because of people like you all that say he's unelectable. There is only one thing wrong with Ron Paul and that is that every time he opens his mouth the truth comes out.

I can't think of any "crazy conspiracies" the man has ever espoused. We have seen no other that is as fervent a fighter for the constitution as this man. So as you continue to suffer the abuses of government and violations of the constitution, just remember Ron Paul is unelectable.

Here is a prime example of the saying "people get the government they deserve".

Ron Paul also wants to legalize heroin, and he is a licensed medical doctor!

He has many other nutty positions such as this but he is not really talking about it right now because he wants to be perceived as "electable"...

There is a vast difference between "wants to legalize" and "recognizes that the Federal government has no authority on this issue." Criminal law is intended as a domain of states, not the Feds. If any state wants to criminalize possession of heroin, marijuana, tobacco, alcohol, or masking tape, that's up to that particular state.
Ron Paul is pointing out that the Federal Government has dramatically overstepped its bounds.

Way to regurgitate democratic talking points! You've just shown yourself to be in complete ignorance of the facts. He does not want to "legalize" heroin. He wants to end the "war on drugs," so we can stop throwing money at a problem that we don't have a prayer of winning. He wants the STATES to take the lead on this matter, as it should be, instead of the federal government.

For all you other ignorance spewers, tell me exactly what conspiracy theory Dr. Paul believes in. You damn well better research it, too! I'm sick of you people that have no actual knowledge of this guy simply spouting off what you hear on the TV and the radio. Look it up and read the FACTS, people!!!

I dont think that is his problem. And I really cant put my finger on it either. It has to do with the truth being told. I like much of what he says. I just doubt he will have the majority behind him. If he did, I would vote for him in a heartbeat. As far as this next election goes, I would vote in a dog to get bozo out.

GOP debate: Ron Paul makes case for heroin legalization
May 06, 2011|By Luke Broadwater

At the first GOP debate tonight in Greenville, S.C., Republican presidential candidate and U.S. Congressman Ron Paul made the case for legalizing drugs, even heroin.

In an exchange with Fox News' Chris Wallace, Paul made the point that people should have the freedom to do things to themselves that might seem crazy to others.

"You have a right to do things that are very controversial," Paul said.

"Are you sugggesting that heroin and prostitution are an exercise of liberty?" Wallace countered.

At this, Paul turned his attention to the audience, which loudly cheered most comments he made, despite orders from the moderators not to do so.

"How many people here would use heroin if it were legal?" Paul asked. "I bet nobody would."

Then Paul invoked a voice of sarcasm.

"Oh yeah, I need the government to take care of me," he said. "I don't want to use heroin, so I need these laws."

At that, the crowd burst into applause.

Even Wallace had to laugh.

"Who thought heroin would get applause here in South Carolina?" he said.

**********************************************************

When Dr. Paul said "you have a right to do things that are very controversial" this was his response to the question "When asked by Chris Wallce why South Carolinia social conservative should vote for him if he favored the legalization of prostitution, gay marriage, marijuana, and even heroin"

Heroin is one of the most addictive and evil drugs used today... if people use heroin now when it is illegal then it is logical to assume that they will continue to use it if it is made legal, not only that many more will as well... the fact that a licensed medical doctor such as Ron Paul supports using heroin as an "exercise of 1st ammendment rights" indicates to me that the man is not capable of consistently making sound decisions if he was POTUS.

Well, you are correct here. The Constitution doesn't say it. I meant to say the US Declaration of Independence.

"Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" is one of the most famous phrases in the United States Declaration of Independence and considered by some as part of one of the most well crafted, influential sentences in the history of the English language. These three aspects are listed among the "unalienable rights" or sovereign rights of man.

The government is supposed to act in the best interest of its citizens right?

This could also be used to defend universal health care, but the problem there is that you violate personal property rights by forcing people to pay for such a system.

My point is that people have a right to have access to this stuff (marijuana) because of its medical properties. Allowing people to have it in certain amounts would not mean that mass dealing and grow operations would be legal. It just means that if someone wants to smoke a little weed, they can. There's people who have survived cancer and chemo by smoking the stuff. I think smoking weed is stupid. I would never do it unless my life depended on it, but as I've said many times I'm not going to tell people what to do. I don't have that right.

I think most people support the idea that the government should butt out of peoples' lives. Shown by people applauding to Paul's comments in South Carolina. Of course you have the far left wing people like those in California who would rather have the government take care of them and impose their lifestyle on everyone else. Which is why they were proposing that idiotic law about circumcision. Or why you can't buy a Coke from a vending machine in the city of San Francisco.

Idk. Live and let live is the way to do it.

As for life being a right... Well they all talk about how that means socialized health care and how it should be paid for by everyone and provided to everyone... No. RIGHTS mean that the government can't deprive you of it. It doesn't mean provided to you. The Second Amendment is my right but I don't see the US government handing out M16s to anybody except the Mexican drug cartels.
