Jeepdude-
I purchased a S&W mod. 10-6 (1977 90%) earlier this year at a gun show for $390. 4" heavy barrel, fixed sights, S&W large grips (target). This is a nice D/A .38 spcl and is quite accurate, with a great trigger. I am more than happy with it, and have CC it several times. |
Re: gonna buy a revolver. looking for some suggestions....
I second the 10. Can be had for around 500, Really any of the smiths especially the older ones are great. Ruger GP100 is a good choice too.

Re: gonna buy a revolver. looking for some suggestions....
I was looking at some Rugers last night at a LGS and they are under $500 and really nice looking. One was a GP100 and they had a 101 in stock.

Re: gonna buy a revolver. looking for some suggestions....
The Model 15 as well. Basically the Model 10 with adjustable sights. A little harder to find, but worth it.

Ruger's are really hard to beat, great quality!

Re: gonna buy a revolver. looking for some suggestions....
buds guns online out of lexington ky. has some police trade-in S&w model 10s in 4 inch for $269 shipped. most have holster wear but should be good shooters and if you are gonna carry they will get holster wear anyway. The round butt one would be a sweet carry gun and keep accracy in check.

Check out these police trade-ins. $269 not a bad price for a S&W mod 10

Re: gonna buy a revolver. looking for some suggestions....
One thing you might want to consider is checking with local hunting regulations to see what handgun you can use to harvest big game in your state. In my state the barrell has to be a certain length and the gun a certain caliber. You may not be a hunter now, but some day????
On a side note, I have always liked the .357 as I can shoot less expensive .38s plus the truly leathal .357. ( a 125 grain .357 magnum jacketed hollow point is truly an attention getter!) It goes Kaboom! |
Re: gonna buy a revolver. looking for some suggestions....
The SP 101 is now avaible with a 4" barrel
http://ruger.com/products/sp101/models.html I'm a big fan of the Smith and wesson Model 19 gives you the option to step up to 357 if you want |
Re: gonna buy a revolver. looking for some suggestions....
Jeep - you cant go wrong with a Ruger or S&W revolver. I would really consider one of those police trade in Model 10's at Buds. The round grip ones would make an excellent carry revolver. All the suggestions above are excellent, as well.

I would love to have a Colt Diamondback if I could find one.

Re: gonna buy a revolver. looking for some suggestions....
My choice would be a smith airweight or 642. second choice would be Ruger SP101, but they are heavy little sixguns.

Re: gonna buy a revolver. looking for some suggestions....

Re: gonna buy a revolver. looking for some suggestions....
I have a S&W 686 with a 4" barrel for 26 years now and still enjoy shooting 357 rounds or 38 specials to save a few pennies. A 9mm may be a good choice too.

Jeepdude-
Had a Ruger SecuritySix for twelve years....bought it when they 1st appeared in 1975 (?) although it was a blued version w/ a 6" barrel. It was a nice handgun w/ decent accuracy and like all Rugers...well built. Killed a deer at 40 yrds w/ it when I lived in Michigan, 158 grn. SJHP...Sierra...hand loaded w/ H110. I was shooting w/ some friends back then that had Smiths....sold my Security Six and bought a S&W Highway Patrolman....nice weapon also...sold that eventually and like the old saying...wish I'd never done that...today...I would like to have them both back. Re: gonna buy a revolver. looking for some suggestions....

In my feeble minds defense though.. Not all the SP101s are 5 shooters... The SP101 in .327 fed mag is a six shooter.. HAH! :D |
