Re: Another Remington 742 problem

The 742 is a quirky weapon but will run extremely reliably if you treat it right. I strongly suggest you call AGI (http://www.americangunsmith.com) and order their gunsmith DVD on the 742. It is...

Re: Removing copper fouling (Barnes X-bullets)

I've been shooting Barnes bullets for years and have never had a fouling problem. You need to call Barnes and find out what's going on - they are very helpful on the phone. They also have a great...

Thanks. Good to see a fellow NH person on the site. This was a really old post, though. :)

Re: Winchester 94 questions

I have an FFL available to me for use as needed. I do gunsmith work for a local gun store (mostly cleanings and small repairs), so they let me use their FFL for any transactions I need.

Winchester 94 questions

I don't know what's with me lately, but I keep spending too much money on junk guns because I can't see them parted out or destroyed. First the old Thompson M1911, then the Marlin 336A, then a...

Re: Which .22 caliber rifle?

Define "new". Are you looking for factory replacements or something like the new Hi-Viz sites? If factory replacement, you can probably get them from Brownells or direct from Savage. Heck, I might...

Re: 10/22 prices & gun prices in general

I was a CA resident until Gray Davis got elected. Then I moved to NH - Live Free or Die state.... but then again, we just elected a democrat governor who isn't very friendly to the outdoor sports. ...

Re: what does everybody think is the best caliber for self defense

It really depends on what type of threat you are defending against.

If I'm walking along and thing I'm in a possible threatening situation, my hand can go in my coat pocket and I can be ready...

Re: what does everybody think is the best caliber for self defense

Define self defense.

Home defense - by far the best is a 12 gauge shotgun with buckshot, backed up with either a .45 ACP semi-auto or .357 revolver. In the home, I would use frangible bullets so...

Re: Info needed on New Haven .22

Thanks for the feedback. This one was pre-64, but we couldn't date it any more accurately than that.

I've taken it apart and given it a thorough cleaning and polished the bore because it had some...

Re: bbl length

As does my 20" bull barrel and my 22" stainless, however the point here is that ballistically, the 16" barrel is superior due to the higher muzzle velocity achieved on the exiting round.

This...

Re: bbl length

Actually, there is truth to that. Accompanying the studies for 10/22 were some bolt action charts that showed in the bolt actions, velocity and pressure remained relatively good right up to 28".

Re: 10/22 prices & gun prices in general

OK, but with new ones selling at Wal-Mart for anywhere between 140-220, what would be a good reasonable price for a used one? I think $165 is too much

I have to agree with Ken, but will add that we have found the regular WOLF ammo to be nearly as good as their Match Target, and a lot cheaper. In fact, if you talk to shops that specialize in match...

10/22 prices & gun prices in general

What are people seeing for new and used 10/22s around the country. Here in New Hampshire, the prices have gone out of sight. The only affordable place to buy one is Wal-Mart. The local gun stores...

I was wondering the same thing. The local gun store just got in a bunch. They look to be decent quality, but I'd like to try one out before committing my money.

Re: Most accurate .22lr?

Are we talking out of the box or modified? If it is out of the box, than I can't help but be a schill for the Marlin 880SQ. I've got several and all will put 10 rounds in a 1 1/4" circle at 100...

Re: Info needed on New Haven .22

Thanks Jaztym. I think we've got it nailed. It is a pre-1964 model that Mossberg sold as a 320K. I've already taken it apart, cleaned it up and got it back together again. Not a bad little rifle...

Re: Eeek! It's a Mouse Gun!

Follow up question - I cannot find a serial number on this rifle anywhere. Did the old New Haven/Mossbergs have serial numbers? Is it unusual not to have a serial number?

Re: Which .22 caliber rifle?

Thanks. This is really good information.

I've cleaned the rifle, smoothed out some of the badly scored bits and re-assembled. May give it a try this weekend.
