Take a look at the Ruger American also . I've read nothing but good reviews on it ! Remington has a new Model out , the Model 783 , I believe it is . Avoid the 770 , like the plague , it's junk .

You can still get the Weaver scope mounts from Brownell's ! They are a good little starter gun for a kid or lady , they're certainly safer than a Winchester 94 from the same era .

If you have .308 or 30-06 dies , use the seating plug from one of those . The 30-30 seating plug is for a flat or round nosed bullet . At least I think that might be a remedy !

The gas system in a Rem. 742 is not adjustable , and what in hell is a head lock lever ? Remove the barrel , or better yet have a gunsmith familiar with Rem. autos clean it for you . I charge $50.00...
