I used the orange paint on my SP101 and its held up well and its been a great improvement.

I too have an interest in the older revolvers, especially after my Dad gave me this S&W Double Action 3rd model a few years ago made in 1886. I like the old H&R revolvers too....

Its the factory finish. The only changes I made to it was to change out the inserts to stag inserts, switched out the front sight blade to Hi Viz and smoothed out the edges a little on the trigger.

I own both S&W's and Rugers and I like them both. I think S&W has been going through some quality control issues in the last 2 to 3 years though. I can sadly say that my S&W's had given me more...
