Re: Searching for info on old Springfield .22

Steve99f, thanks a lot. You've given me more info than all the rest put together. I appreciate everyone of the replies here and other forums that I've posted on; but this is the nearest to a firm...

Re: Searching for info on old Springfield .22

Steve99f, also, do you know what the letters P.T.G.A. stamped on the bottom of the barrel of a Stevens model 258A, 12 gauge bolt action w/2 shot magazine means?

Re: Searching for info on old Springfield .22

Steve99f, thanks. I think I get the meaning of what you're stating. You're saying that the Savage Model 3 was introduced in 1933. Then it was renamed later as a model 53 or 83.
'depending on...

Re: Searching for info on old Springfield .22

Update:

Although I haven't found any info on this rifle, I was asked by my son-in-law (owner of the gun) to refinish it a bit. Here are some pics of the rifle after I refinished it. I still have...

Re: Sears 3T

Yeah, Rifleman. I've been cleaning with 91% rubbing alcohol and setting the oven at just under 200. I leave it in the oven for about 7 or 8 minutes. It's like the metal 'sops' the bluing up like a...

Re: Sears 3T

THAT is a good looking gun! I really like the light color of the wood and the grain is a great pattern. Although the pictures of mine look great, I'm having trouble getting a consistent finish with...

Re: Sears 3T

I should get a clear coat of some kind and seal it. It probably will be ok as is; and if it does get discolored, scratched, etc., I can always use 0000 steel wool again!

Re: Sears 3T

Rifleman, I just used some flat black spray on my Colteer. I left the 3T bare. Your rifle is also a Sears 3T or a Winchecter 190/290? If you get some more pics, be sure to post them.

Here are some more of the ones I've refinished.
And here's a picture of the Marlin model 81 that I found in the Boise Gun Shop. I haven't done anything to it; doesn't need it. Really shoots well.
