Mine is the same way. From what I have been told by others with MNs, including gunsmiths:

A fair attempt at free float, as long as it mores freely it should shoot fairly well. This was a theory...

I would check the headspace anyway just to be safe. When the rifles were re-arsenalled they were done in batches. They would be stripped down and all the bolt bodies tossed in one box, extractors in...

You don't need one if you can get it from a place who will sell to non C&R holder and you can pick it up. I am about 10...
