I have and am very happy with the Kel Tec SU22 and Ruger SR22 pistol. Price wise, the Mossberg tactical 22 is nice. Or get a Ruger 10/22 and get the tactical stock you want it to look like.

Actually what you are seeing in the pics is my reflection, I am wearing a purple and blue shirt. I just finished hot oil bluing the bolt and will put in in this week and repost pics.

Ruger 10/22 with a twist....
Took a carbine stock, did a little woodworking magic, Duracoated the receiver, polished the interals, trigger 3lb pull, polished the bolt and plan on hot oil bluing it next to get a blue/purple...

The receiver on the 989 is Duracoated. You are correct, you cannot blue aluminum and the cast aluminum on marlins and other lesser expensive rifles are made of cast aluminum so they are really hard...

I realized I made a mstake and ran the piece on the polish wheel after I jeweled it and it washed it out too much. I also saw my errs in jeweling and re did the whole thing. It looks much better now....
