Most of those truckers you are talking about (back in 70's) owned their own trucks or had a lease/own agreement with their companies. They ran 2 or more logbooks and never slept, a bunch took speed...

What the problem is there is most of the rails have been pulled up. They have to go to a consolidaton yard where they are unloaded and then a tractor hooks them and may have to take them up to 300...

I'm no expert on maintenance costs but I would think a simple oil change would run you about $300 bucks and that is for diy. Factor in tire rot if you don't have an enclosed garage to park it in, air...
