Your photo's very dark, but although uncommon, there are British proofed pinfires, which will have the tiny crossed scepters Birmingham proof mark on rear outside of cylinder...

OK, so firing pin is part of hammer.

And if you measured frame where I think you mean, it's probably the medium frame, which will measure about 1" side to side at widest part below barrel.

The closeups of the "nipple" indicate it has an octagon collar for unscrewing. It's too short and hole too big for a percussion nipple.

Use of modern ammo will probably not break it, but will soon loosen the lockup, and do not fire it with .32 Auto...

SN D76666 1s a large frame 3rd model hammerless made in 1919.

The correct caliber is .38 S&W and that patent date was marked on the butt 1914-1941.

If he chooses to fire it, be sure he uses .32 S&W (the short one) ammo, and not .32 Auto rounds, which will also fit but is unsafe.

I doubt a serial number that high would be a special order, and the only examples shown in the book are much later models, with special grips, extra long barrels, etc. with 2, 3, or 4 digit serial...
