Re: In the market for a new .22LR

I've hesitated to comment because I don't recommend the 10/22... unless you are able to add hundreds of dollars to the initial price to make it accurate. Out of the box, the average 10/22 has a...

Re: A long day at the range with the Old Guys

What a wonderful way to spend a beautiful day! That's some good shootin' too!

A few friends and I were on the range one day when one fellow's nephew and a couple of his friends happened by. They...

Re: My sons first handgun.

Your son seems to have his head on straight and I expect he'll pass his P22 along to his own child... a family heirloom. I hope both of you enjoy it no end.

I was 5 years old in 1948 when my...

Re: Are .22 pistols less picky than .22 rifles about ammo?

To opine WRT the original question, I think .22 pistols are just as picky as rifles as far as cartridges are concerned. However, considering how each is shot normally, it's much more difficult to...

Re: whats the best 22 automatic rifle?

I have to agree with Hawg as my experiences would dictate. I have two 10/22 rifles that will shoot sub-1/2 inch groups at 50 yards but the only original parts are the receiver, bolt and trigger...

Re: whats the best 22 automatic rifle?

So what kind of groups are you talking at 50 yards and how consistently can you do it?

Any suggestion that the Savage fit, finish and build quality is on a par with a CZ is demonstrably wrong. A...

Re: whats the best 22 automatic rifle?

To kill a coyote with a .22LR will require an accurate rifle that puts it's first shot where you want it. A .22 magnum would be the better choice but if you insist on a .22LR, I'll offer two...

Re: New Toy, CZ-453

Most of them do but there is an exception; the Ultra Lux currently being sold comes with a 10 round mag. Personally, I prefer the 5 round mag.

Re: Barska Varmint scope

I have a Barska 6~24X and an 8~32X. Both require critical eye positioning or everything goes cloudy. When the eye is positioned dead center, the glass is clear, bright and sharp.

Re: 200-Yard Rimfire?

Our local gun club shoots a .22LR match at 100, 150, 200 and 250 yards. Targets are steel swingers of 6", 9" and 12" at the first three distances. We use 3/8 steel rams at 250 yards and standard...

Re: StG 44 in .22LR - How cool is this?

According to yesterday's Guns America email, the .22 version of the StG 44 is being made by GSG of stamped metal (like the original) and has the identical weight of the original. It will retail for...

Re: Old .22 Rifles

This is my Remington Model 33 made in 1932. I refinished the stock. Except for the globe front sight which I've since replaced with the correct blade sight, it's identical to the first .22 rifle I...

Re: Remington single shot rifle

The OP did say he thought the rifle was made in the 1920's so I thought it may have a date code on the barrel. Apparently it's older than he estimates. I have the Gyde & Marcot book and agree it's...

Re: Remington single shot rifle

Look on the underside of the barrel for two letters. They will tell you the month and year the rifle was made.

Go here to see what the letters mean:...

Re: Long range capability of a .22LR

Re: Long range capability of a .22LR

Absolutely... but everyday, run of the mill rifles may disappoint you at that distance. OTOH, some of the same types of rifles may surprise you with excellent groups.

I have a book on .22 rifles...

I've owned a couple of Remington 552 rifles; one brand new. Accuracy was, at best, only average. Both were sold for exactly that reason.

For out of the box best accuracy, the Thompson Center may...

Re: G'day from a new member and any .22 suggestions.

My choices would be the Anschutz first and the CZ-455 second if prices are close. The Anschutz rifles are known for their accuracy and fine triggers. The CZ rifles are also famous for their accuracy...

Re: 50 yd paper punching

Evan, the best advice anyone can give you - IMO - is to buy a 50 round box of every different .22LR cartridge you can find and see what YOUR 10-22 likes best. Once you've found the round it likes...

Re: May want to consider cleaning that rimfire bore.

Each rimfire rifle is a law unto itself and the frequency of cleaning will depend upon when it's necessary and not a "one size fits all" time table. Once a rifle's bore is completely clean, most...

Re: Got My Savage Model 19 Today, I got Very Lucky

Re: What was the first .22 you actually owned?

The first .22 I actually owned was a Christmas gift for 1959, a Colt Scout revolver. I still have it.
