Re: Nipple Wrench

You might want to try a little Kroil (or whatever penetrating oil you have) on the nipples. Apply it inside the cylinder and outside and try it after a half hour soak. I lube my 1858 with olive oil...

Re: case harden hammer, hand, trigger 1858 remington

I guess it would not hurt anything but in my experience ( 3 year old 12" pietta) I have not seen any significant wear on any of those parts. They must be fairly well hardened. -Stew

Re: Brass frame Pistols?

I have a 12 inch barrel Pietta 1858 with brass frame which I have used for 3 years with no "stretch" in the frame. I measured the Cyl./forcing cone spacing with a feeler gauge when it was new and...

Re: New Sig Mosquito Owner

My wife has had good luck with Federal Automatch which is inexpensive and cycles perfectly with the lighter spring.

Re: Pistols on-line?

Yes- in most juristictions you can purchase and own a BP pistol(they are not classified as firearms) if you are not prohibited from owning a firearm (felon, etc.) Some localities such as San...

Re: Lock up on '51 Navy Colt

Try some Olive Oil on the cylinder pin. Thats what I use on my 1858 Remington.

Re: Brass Frames

I have proabably 500 rounds though it. The 777 I referred to is Hodgsons powder which is more powerful than Pyrodex or BP. Using BP or pyrodex and keeping it under 30 gr. should not overstress the...

Re: Brass Frames

I have a 12" pietta Remington with the brass frame (Cabellas sells them) and
have no "stretch" in the frame. I know this because I used a feeler guage between the cylinder and forcing cone when...

Re: To wad or not to wad that is my question

You should be using Pyrodex P not RS . RS is FF and used in rifles.

Re: A new members questions

I have used both .451 and .454 balls with no problem. They both will shave off a ring of lead when loaded which means they are larger than the cylinder and are sealing. I have used 777 in mine and...

Re: So who makes the best BP revolvers

I have a 12" 1858 brass frame I purchased from Cabellas about two years ago. I have been shooting it with 25 to 27 gr. of pyrodex and 451 or 454 ball.
I also used a lubed wad over the powder. It has...

Re: Loading powder & Nipple wrench for Rem. 44 cal.

Good practice means NOT loading from a flask and I have one that measures well but I still use either a empty 38 case or these little glass vials that I found on E-Bay. The vials have become my...

Re: Pietta 1858 Remington 44 caliber pistol

Try someone else's measure to determine which one is off. Forget about the weight, it is
not aplicable in BP shooting (all measures are by volume). BTW, 28 gr. of Pyrodex is what I use with a wonder...

Re: Any Black Powder Bullseye Shooters Here?

Just curious if there is a barrel length restriction on this class of competition
at the nationals. Was thinking of building one with a "12 barrel.

Re: Any Black Powder Bullseye Shooters Here?

Nice looking pistols. Just curious as to what calibers they are. I have a back order in for a .32 barrel which I would use for my own inline pistol if they become available. I currently have a 12"...

Re: home made revolver grips

Yes the holster is my creation. Using the cheapest remnant in Tandy's bin. You simply wrap around the pistol to get an idea of the shape/fit and trim it to fit. Then get out the punch and make the...

Re: home made revolver grips

Proabably wouldn't get a R.H. right. Like I said just put a larger piece on and cut away everything that doesn't feel right.

Re: home made revolver grips

Here is an example of a homemade grip for a 1858 Remington 12". This one is for a lefty shooter therefore the R.H. grip is left intact. Remove the offending grip cut the wood generously larger than...
