I had the same scope on my 1963 Remington Model 700 BDL. I sold it to buy a new Leupold in the 1970's. I wish I had kept it but I still own the rifle.

I owned a few older ones. Never had a scope on either one so with open sights at 100 it was more like 4" - 6" groups. I'm sure a scope would have helped. But at the same time I could shoot better...

Get it prepared for bluing and find someone to hot blue it for you would be the better way to go. I have a local guy that hot blues guns that I get ready for $30....
